Just got a Peloton bike

ive had strep for the past week so I haven't been able to get on the bike other than a 30 minute ride this past Monday that left me totally gassed.

gonna try and do all three of the pzp rides coming up starting with the 75 minute one tomorrow. seems like a terrible idea and I'm not gonna be happy but fingers crossed!

The clipped pedals allow you to use the hammies on the upstroke whereas that's unpossible with jogging shoes. You're gonna wanna get the clipped-in shoes.

How is the ftp calculated in the test classes? I feel like what it's saying is lower than it should be.

Your FTP is supposed to represent the power you could average for an hour. So they take 95% of your average output in watts from the 20 min test class to represent FTP.

Thanks. For some reason it says 174 when it should be 185. Guess I have to do it manually. Test was 194

Are you looking at your average output or your total output? It should be your average output -5%.

We don't have Apple watches but ordered the "+"

I tend to regret not buying the upgrades on stuff and the mrs didn't want to hear me beechin' that I should have bought the "+".

note that there's a wait for the "+". We ordered ours mid April and scheduled for deliver 5/22

For the "+", a lot of people claim the only difference is the swivel screen. However, the biggest difference is the resistance, it's going from a mechanical to digital resistance. So your bike will automatically adjust to the class if you want. Or if you choose to adjust it yourself, it'll still be a lot more reactive and quicker than the old style. It's supposed to be a lot more accurate in terms of wattage output as well.

I watched and read the dc rainmaker reviews before making my decision.

That's what I did. Apparently it calculates it on its own when entered manually so I put in the 95% and it took 95% of that number. Got it figured out now!

I'm on the 3 ride team #B00Bees (I ride with the #TexasAggies so I don't look like a creeper).

I was very good during my first 2 challenges, but my wife and I were moving with our 2 kids at the beginning of this one and I've been the worst teammate.

Did Hannah Corbin's 45min Pop ride live this morning with a friend (her first ride) and I didn't know a single song. Also, it brought my appreciation of the Power Zone classes and the instructors to a higher level. I felt like Hannah was just there to talk and occasionally give direction for the ride when she remembered she was teaching a class.

Hannah is probably my least favorite instructor. My wife likes to take her classes when she wants an 'easy day'. I avoid her classes completely because she does not stay on the class and goes off on tangents. It drives me nuts.

Ah yes, the 90 second 1 minute intervals, the 45 second 15 second intervals. Those are at least in part why I became a spinning instructor. We had a few instructors at our gym that did that stuff and I hated it. I have a clock on my bike right in front of my face that tells me what 60 seconds is. When you tell me we are going all out for 1 minute, and the clock passes 90 seconds with no sign from you that the interval is over, I am going to check out on the class. That is exactly the kind of thing that will make me hold back on every interval expecting to go longer and need something extra left to cover the additional time beyond what you said we would be doing. It is one thing to get to 55 seconds and tell the class "come on, give me an extra XX seconds!" But it is another to just routinely make your intervals random lengths longer than you said they would be without saying anything about it.

That is the beauty of the power zone classes...you can trust the process, because you can trust the instructors to follow through on the profile they tell you they are going to do. I like to tell the class exactly what we will be doing for every set of intervals and then make sure I follow through on it. Knowing what is coming lets you measure your efforts appropriately and you can put everything into it when you trust the instructor not to throw a curveball at you as a surprise.

Yep. We had one instructor that would send us up to 5-6 gears above our flat road gear to "climb a hill", then tell us to take one gear off as "we are going over the top of the hill" and tell us to go up to 100 rpm as we "go down the backside of the hill"...at flat road +4 gears.

I wish I had the +.

I bought mine a year ago before it was available but didn't start frequent use until the last few months. The upgrades are worth the extra cost, IMO. I wish I could trade them my bike plus $500 for the new one.

We swapped the Peloton pedals with "delta" clips to pedals with the "SPD" - has been a great swap for us.

Any of you do much mountain biking? That's the main reason I got a Peloton. Hadn't been on a bike in a long time until this past december. I wanted to be in shape enough so that I could hit the trails once of twice a month.

Had the Peloton since the first of the year. So far, 10 minutes on a trail and I'm huffing and puffing.

I'm guessing I just need more HIIT classes thrown in? I know I've got to build more aerobic base too. Planning on doing my first 60 minute PZE ride Tomorrow. Gonna start trying to do at least one of those a week.
