Just curious. One of the issues I had with peloton was fact that they don't make adjustments for how big someone is. Mind if I ask how much you weigh, etc?

Someone 250lbs can crank a lot of resistance on a stationary bike but on a road bike, that 250 lbs becomes a negative vs a 125lb guy.

Your numbers are pretty impressive from what I recall from the times I've ridden. Getting my bike next weekend.

Anyone ever have issues with the screen being very slow to respond to you inputs. All of them. Volume, leaderboard settings etc.

During my ride today it was very glitchy and never showed my own stats on the leaderboard. It showed me my live stats and HR like always.

Then apparently it didn't record my stats. It shows I did the ride but has zero kjs.

Then I did a cool down ride and it recorded all of that. But the screen was still slow

They don't normalize for people's bodyweight unfortunately. It's why I usually just swipe the leaderboard away or filter down to fellow Aggies or people I know.

Don't mind at all. I'm 5' 8" 190. I normally try to stay within the top third of all time riders for a class because I know my stature won't slow me to push what the top people do. I've found if I'm around top 20%-30% all time I've worked my butt off.

Are you on WiFi or hard wired to your Ethernet? On WiFi I was doing classes where they'd be blank or glitching for 10 minutes or more in a 30 minute class. Hard wired my bike and have had 0 glitches or issues since.

Game 2 or training session? I have done both games and intended on using them as my FTP results. So far not so good. During the second game my average output was 342 while my FTP test was average output was 348, so that was a bit disappointing. And we lost the second game, also disappointing. But as Matt says just realize there is always room for improvement.

Between my last 2 FTP test and the AT Games, I just am not seeing the progression I would expect, and I don't understand it. When I'm doing the PZ rides I always ride at the top of the specified zones and most times when the rest is at Z1 I stay in Z2, so I feel strong in the training rides, but flop on the FTP test.

Any ideas?

I did the 3/27 ride

I would say you might be going too hard. One ride Matt said you need to be in the middle of your zones because the top is more like the other zone.

Yeah sounds like you could be over training. That's a heavy load you're putting in.

Try taking your PZ rides down a notch. Mid zone and recovery in Z1. You're probably getting plenty of intensity from the AT Rides anyway.

How often do you retest?

Basically when I feel it is warranted. Typically I would say 8-10 weeks. My thought was after this current PZ challenge and AT challenge, take a complete break from the bike. Maybe a week or two and just reset. Perhaps spend some time doing yoga / arm training / stretching.

Yes, and Peloton is totally falling on the sword here for poor child supervision, IMO. When I took delivery of our Tread+ they were very informative of the risks, etc and adamant about removing the safety key when not in use to lock the treadmill. To be fair, the slatted belt is exposed under the treadmill but it's so substantial I'm not sure how they could enclose it without making the thing much larger. That said, there are inherent risks with most pieces fitness equipment and the safest thing one can do for their children is not allow access to that equipment. I don't have kids and will not be sending my Tread+ back, FWIW.

VOLUNTARY recall. I won't be sending mine back because someone let their child near an active exercise equipment.

From a member of the Becs' Beasts page about the tread recall. According to her this is what Peloton told her.

1. My base is still being delivered 5/11.
2. All tread owners will get 3 months of membership free. He was not sure if you need to call to get it or it will automatically push.
3. They tell you to not use the tread until an update has happened. The update will lock the tread until you put a passcode in. There is no back guard planned that he knows of as of now.
4. They will still be pushing new content/programming. They will encourage you to take classes outside/on another treadmill.

New to Peloton. We received our Bike+ 4 weeks ago.

A. I love it.
B. Where is the FTP test located?

I always just sort my rides by the time I have available to workout and then select one that fits the music I am interested to listen to that day.

Easiest way to find them is to sort by 20 min class length and class type of "power zone". I highly suggest stacking one of the 10 or 15 min ftp test warmup classes ahead of your test. They can be found the same way by just changing length to 10 or 15.

And if you want a little help picking which class to take, there is a guy who writes a review of all of the FTP classes. He updates it periodically with any new classes that have been added to the library. The link below is to his version updated as of March 2021. I have found that having the right music is key to maximizing my performance, so now, I play my own playlist on a bluetooth speaker and just mute the bike volume and watch whatever the coach is saying on closed captioning. But I would suggest going with their playlist and coaching for your first couple of times you test until you have a better feel for what you need.

Y'all weren't lying. PR'd at a 488 output. Over 15 miles and 702 kCal burn. That was nuts. I might take that one again and shoot for over 500.

I think you and I are in the same boat, man. I'm not "good" at the FTP test (probably need to adjust my approach if I wanna see improvement from here). But in the right 20 class, I can smoke it on par or past my FTP test rides. Some of that is just pure competitive spirit (like that AT Ride to Greatness Game 1 we were both in, or just a group of Sessions riders who push me), and I get that, but I also tend to push myself to ride the top of my zones in the standalone PZ classes. So for guys/gals like us, there's a point when our windows for improvement are minimal because we're training near our max/overtraining (like, when Matt calls out Z3, I'm always creeping into the sweet spot, and most of my "Z4" efforts creep into Z5 unless I'm already wiped, etc.). So like mrsbeer said about Matt's advice (and my wife admonishes me about this, too lol), I've started to pick one ride per week where I force myself to ride no higher than the middle of my zones. This week, that was the AR in the power zone challenge going on right now. Next week, I might pick one of the 45 min classes to do that. Still in the trial and error phase to see if this works for me, but I'm a *little* different in one respect--I'm not seeking to improve my FTP in the short or medium term. Training right here is kicking my tail damn near every ride, so I'm just trying to let my body acclimate for the time being.

Sorry for rambling. You've been doing this longer than I have, so I know I'm not saying anything earth-shattering lol. Just my $0.02 since I've been thinking along similar lines recently.

Keeping my Tread+ too, but it is kind of comforting that I can get a full refund until October 2022 if I want. If there is a base issue or they release a newer, better one, I can return this one and get a new one. I do always take my key out and animals are gated away so not real concerned there.

My best advice is to paraphrase Matt and Christian Vandevelde and say sometimes you need to back off to go faster. The intensity you guys bring to every ride is amazing, and can be good up to a point, but above a certain training density, it can be counterproductive. Believe me, I understand how the farther up the leaderboard you get, the harder it is to fight the urge to compete. If you are not giving your body time to recover after really hard rides, you aren't going to get all of the gains from those rides. When seeking FTP gains, shorter high intensity classes (like 20-30 min HIIT/Tabata rides or AT's ride to greatness rides) are not necessarily going to give you the best bang for the buck. They will raise VO2Max some, and will work some on your lactate threshold, but they are not necessarily the best classes to take more than a couple of times a week. For FTP gains, I would focus more on the 45-60 min PZE and PZ classes for most of your rides, and then throw in 1-2 per week where you go really hard if you want. During those PZE and PZ classes it is ok to go towards the top of your zone, but resist the urge to ride higher, as it can be counterproductive to what you are trying to achieve with the ride. If you start working into more anaerobic energy pathways, you are not building the aerobic capacity it takes to increase FTP. Instead of working into the next zone up, work on being really smooth and steady in the saddle with a higher cadence. That steady faster cadence is what will help you maintain endurance late into the FTP test instead of needing to stand and go to really heavy resistance, where you are far less efficient.

So, instead of the "once a week I dial it back" philosophy, I would work with a "once a week I let it rip" concept instead, and each time you do one of those, make the next class you take one where you deliberately ride at or below the middle of your zones as a "recovery" ride.

txag92 nailed it I think. Since the beginning of this year, I've been doing PZ rides (whatever the current challenge prescribes) followed by going to F45 for another strength or cardio class (depending on the day). Well at the start of the current PZ challenge, I added another day of F45 strength work that I was previously using as a total rest day. Well, after 2 weeks I was starting to really see the signs of overtraining (I think). On PZE rides, my HR was 5-10 beats higher than normal, and on last Monday's PZ ride, I felt absolutely wiped out when I should have been tired, but not drop-dead exhausted. I took 2 days completely off, and when I got back on the bike on Saturday, I felt like I had brand new legs.

I've now modified my Peloton/F45 schedule, and I'm back to being in the HR range that I would expect to be in for the level of effort being exerted. Even better, I can tell that I'm making PZ improvements as yesterday's "recoveries" in Z2 almost felt like Z1.

TL,DR; I'm forcing myself to accept that rest/recovery days are necessary if I want to keep making improvements in my fitness. Wilpers has said it numerous times that you can't just go out and destroy yourself every single day. You have to give your body a chance to heal/recover/adapt.

I hear you, and while I am embarrassed to admit this, I did the best I could at the time. I did the challenge PZ ride Monday, and set a PR, but as previously mentioned, I was at the top of each zone and my rest was Z2, that was fail 1. Fail 2 came the next day. I decided to do the 75 minute ride, but was committed to doing mid zones. Well, and here is the embarrassing part, with about 20 minutes left I had nothing...zero, nada, zilch...so I dropped down to Z2 the rest of the ride. Even that seemed hard. Took the day off yesterday and we will see how today shakes out.

What did you do to recover after the hard ride on Monday? FWIW, that profile zapped me pretty good too. If I do a hard ride like that and don't eat something with some carbs and protein in it within an hour or so after the ride, I can feel it in my legs the next day. Some coaches refer to it as the "golden hour" after a hard workout, when nearly all of what you consume goes right back into restocking the muscles with glycogen. As you get farther and farther out after the workout, the rate at which you replenish the muscles slows down significantly. Inadequate rehydration afterwards can also be a limiting factor to recovery quality. I typically try to finish whatever I have left in my bottle and drink another full bottle of water within an hour or so after the ride is over.
