For those that have purchased the bike, what cleats does it accept? I have Shimano SPD-SL cleats on my shoes--was hoping that I wouldnt have to buy new shoes or change out cleats often.

I'm glad you guys are liking the bike. I do too. I find the workouts are tough as hell, which is what I want. I alos have found doing them and I like the competitive nature the leaderboard brings. If that isn't your thing you can simply turn that feature off.

Yall add me on there.... DOUGinTEXAS

If you're not an avid spin class fan, but just like to bike, then the main perk is being able to do it indoors at any time of day and still have a competitive environment to push yourself, which is the main key over a trainer or rollers. I have a few friends and family members who normally ride outdoors, but with babies and young kids, they're not able to leave the house. This allows them to sill get a bike workout in, but not have CPS called for ditching your young kids at home.

I think if i was restricted due to kids/whatever, i'd spend the $$ on a smart trainer and use zwift/trainerroad. I hate spin classes, but reluctantly take them this time of year when I can't ride after work. They are included in my gym membership though since i don't live in the middle of nowhere in east texas.

I believe these are the cleats...

Peloton also sells them directly on their site in the accessories section.

Yep, I live deep in the pineywoods. Folks here are excited because there are rumors we might get a Dairy Queen.

My wife and I pulled the trigger on a Peloton bike yesterday. We visited the store in Austin and I'm really excited about the concept, the quality of the bike, and the content. Really looking forward to it.

Get a real bike and a smart trainer to hook your bike up to.

I can't imagine how bad the resale on a peleton is going to be in a few years.

So I'm finally up and cycling with my Peloton. Very happy so far. I did a 20 minute beginner ride last night to get the feel for it, check my settings, etc.

This morning I did a live class at 6:00am. So convenient to wake up at 5:45am and be cycling at 6:00am. My wife and I both work full-time, and we have two kids (8 and 4) so getting to a gym is damn near impossible. I am not a huge fan of running, and my neighborhood is super hilly, so going for a jog is not a regular option.

This is a perfect alternative for us. Great workout, lots of options for classes. Controlled weather elements being indoors. I'm sure I'm drinking the kool-aid a bit right now being a new rider, but super happy so far...

East Texas - I knew I would find this topic on TexAgs! I'm considering jumping in myself for similar reasons already stated. At my age of 63 I'm looking for a cardio workout that I can do at home and at the same time is interesting enough to keep me motivated.

My question has to do with the live workout options. I've always been very competitive but somehow getting my ass kicked in the class standings every day by 20, 30 and 40 year olds doesn't sound very motivating. But put me in a class with 50 and 60 year olds and I'll hold my own. Do they offer class options based on age?

I would doubt they have separate classes by age group, but I bet if they don't give you the ability to filter the leaderboard for your age/gender, it is something that they would be willing to add in the future if enough people ask for it.

Yep there is an easy filter to add that let's you only see your age group, your friends, your gender, etc. there's an "add filter" button next to the leader board.

Do they sell a model that gives you electroshock if you try to put on Aggie basketball in the background?

Thanks! Also, what was the delivery time after you placed your order? I understand it can vary if you order online vs through one of their stores.

We placed our order at the Austin store on a Saturday evening. Bike delivery was the following Wednesday. Oddly, the accessories (shoes and mat) arrived separately on Thursday.

I just completed my 8th ride this morning, and set another Personal Record for output. I'm a big fan of the live classes for some reason (I guess it's just that extra push of accountability and competition), but on-demand classes are just as good (Robin Arzon is great if someone with a potty-mouth motivates you). She kicked my ass this morning.

It's amazing what just 11 days has done for me (yes, 8 rides in 11 days). My legs feel as strong as they've felt in a long time. I'm sweating my ass off, and getting as good a cardio workout that any other mode has offered me.

The convenience is the best part. We have two kids and time availability is tough. But all you need is a small window of time to crank out a quick ride. I had about a hour on Saturday, and was able to hop on the bike and knock out a quick 45-minute ride. Beats the heck out of driving to the gym, parking, lifting some half-ass weights and jogging a few laps, resting too much between sets, and coming home 90 minutes later not really feeling that I worked that hard.

I'm still drinking the Kool-aid.

easttexasaggie04 - our bike delivered today (ordered online 2/1) and I also used your referral so you should have another freebie coming your way. I was on the fence when my husband pointed me to your thread and I pulled the trigger. Excited to have an option at home! We live here in Aggieland and my real estate career makes it incredibly challenging to make it to the gym - thanks for the motivation!

I placed my order online tuesday and bike was delivered the following Tuesday. They did charge me $250 delivery fee so if you are close to pick up I would try that option.

I'm really glad you guys pulled the trigger and thank you for the referral! I'm a runner and the Peloton gives me a much more intense workout (in my case). I think you'll be pleased!

For you lolpoors like me, a more affordable option is to use Zwift ($10/month) and a trainer ($300).

Have heard great things about Peloton though.

One very cool think about Peloton is when you change your resistance on the bike your tablet knows it and changes your wattage (output). The same goes for when you change your speed pedaling it changes your cadence on the screen. That connectivity makes the leader board real time and gives you lots of data to track your progress. It's all super user-friendly. The instructor can say "everyone go to a level 56" and that's a level that's known instead of saying "go a quarter turn to the right" and you are kinda just guessing on resistance. However, I'll never make the argument that the Peloton is inexpensive and there are alternatives.

Most of the Golds Gyms by where I live in Round Rock turned into a pay by class spin classes. Even if you have a golds membership you still will have to pay a $20 fee per person per class.

My wife and I liked spin class and were looking at this option. Thanks for all the info. Paying $16 bi-weekly for a gym membership and an extra $20 each time i wanted to go to a spin class is not going to happen. Trying out a Golds thats further away which still has free spin classes but this may be an option in the future

I was two points shy of a PR in this morning's 6am live class. Had a few connectivity issues as well... not sure if it was on the Peloton server end, or if it was my Wifi. I may call UVerse and upgrade my Wifi just to ensure I get the best connection/speed possible. Anyone else experience connectivity issues?

Being able to quantify the resistance in a way that is repeatable from workout to workout really is a great improvement over the older spinning hikes that just have the resistance knob. Our gym switched to Keiser bikes a few years ago with a digital readout showing you a numeric gear, cadence, and power output in watts. There is some power variation from bike to bike, but the gym has them numbered, so it is generally pretty easy to get the same bike each time. As an instructor, I really like having to option to give guidance based on power, gear, cadence, or all three. As somebody taking the class, it has made me work harder at times where having just a resistance knob might have allowed me to slack off.

The newer bikes with knobs have everything but gear....cadence, watts, miles (skeptical on this one) and heart rate (if you are wearing a monitor). They also do average of each one of those, plus max watts.

So even with the knob it is a better deal than just guessing. I do like the geared bikes better, but my current gym (Lifetime) doesn't have the geared bikes.

If they are anything like the Keiser bikes, the "distance" is actually a pedal rotation count. 1.0 on the distance for a Keiser bike is something like 200 pedal revolutions. The bikes track total "distance" and It gives gyms a way to track bike usage for maintenance purposes. Has no relationship to gear or actual distance you would have traveled.

I get annoyed at mine at times, but I know it's good for me. I have about 120ft of elevation gain in my first mile out of my neighborhood. On a easy 20 mile bike I'll get close to 2000

I'm not claiming that the bikes at my Lifetime are accurate, but I don't think their distances are a simple pedal revolution conversion. The reason I say that is because the distance is tied to the speed and power. If you increase the resistance, your cadence goes down, but your power and speed goes up and subsequently your distance goes up whereas if you take the resistance off and increase your cadence, the power and speed will drop (obviously). This morning's class went just over an hour and when I hit the one hour mark, the total distance traveled was dead on my average MPH for the class. So if I would have been free-spinning, while my pedal revolution count would be very high, the distance displayed would be low. Now if the bike somehow combines all of that data and spits out a MPH and distance that is the result of the combined resistance and cadence, I have no idea, but that seems overly complicated when they could just have an admin screen that gives the revolution count.

I am assuming those are not the same bikes we have then. On the Keiser bikes, the resistance level has no effect on distance traveled. Which, to me at least, is not a big deal. I am far more interested in my cadence, hr, and power. Avg power at the end of the class is a more useful stat to me than an artificial distance.
88planoAg
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Nope, not Kaiser - I taught on those and that was why I was skeptical of the mileage on the ones at Lifetime. I ignore the stat, which is why I hadn't noticed it varying with power output. For bikes with knobs these are pretty good - I'm happy they have power output.

East Texas - I'll be purchasing one in the next couple of days and will use your link.

For all who have purchased the Peloton, did you buy any of their accessories? It appears that I can individually purchase the items for less but like the convenience of one stop shopping, particularly on the shoes (never owned bike shoes before). I'm interested in any feedback - whether you bought from Peloton or found lower priced alternatives.
