Howdy!

My current 30+ year old Craftsman 3 ton floor jack is not long for this world. Any recommendations for a new one of good quality?

Thanks!

We have two at our shop that we purchased during sales at Northern Tools after the other two had issues over the years. I don't remember the brand but they are too heavy for me to comfortably load and unload when hauling a loaded trailer occasionally. I do like the larger wheels and low profile when purchasing a floor jack.

Any recs for a lightweight 3 ton and up floor jack to take in the truck occasionally?

I have four of these:

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-low-profile-superduty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-metallic-red-73106.html

They are not light at all but this is what I service all of my 150, 250, 350 trucks with. 3 year warranty. I've done lifts, leveling kits, suspension work….anything. I'm a big fan of them over pretty much anything else I've found.

My main jack is the Daytona 3 ton low profile/long reach. I check HF's website for the one that gave me the highest lift at the time and grabbed it.

Had it for several years now and it's been a great jack.

Also have both of their Badlands offroad jacks and they're fine too.

Oh!!!

If you want the HF one, watch for sales or sign up for a membership for the year. With the membership, you get more discount than it costs and it has coupons too.

Holidays, the fourth, etc.

Use these also.

I've got a Badlands 3- ton and it's legit. Even have an older Pittsburgh 3-ton and it's been fine also.

I have one of these and its my most used jack. I also have one of the 1.5ton "racing jack" which is super handy for moving it around and using it to lift/move/press secondary things. Like raising/lowering a rear axle when changing shocks for example.

Yeah....they are nice.

I searched high and low for a quality jack. I started with American Forge and Foundry. These are what Discount Tire uses. I figured if they are good enough for them 6 days a week all day, then they will be good for me. But they didn't have stellar reviews either.

I ended up digging up a thread on garage journal and these were reccomended. They are super smooth. They roll well if you have concrete floors, they pump up fast and can be CONTROLLED on the descent, which for things like you said with lowering an axle is really handy. I used these on my F350 to lower the axles to add stuff.

I waited until there was a 30% off everything coupon available for 3 days or something and then I ran around town collecting them. I have other jacks from Torin that I have had a long time and they are just gigantic pieces of ***** The 6 ton jack is used for nothing more than jacking up a truck to get it on jack stands. The SOB will bleed down almost before I can get a jack stand under it. Huge POS. The Daytonas don't give me trouble and they came with better warranties than I could find anywhere.

My setup too. Racing jack only for work on the Subaru but had to upgrade once I got the Tundra and LX. Both are great.

HarborFreight has a parking lot sale this weekend and the base 3 Ton Daytona jack (not low profile / long reach) is on sale for $120 down from $180.

I admit I had been waiting a while for a parking lot sale to pick up the long reach with the foot pedal or the super duty version with 3 year warranty, neither of which are on sale this weekend. The wait continues.

Be aware that not all of the Daytonas have a 3 year warranty. I'd stick to one that does because I feel like it's better built.

What is wrong with the old jack? Sometimes they just need oil. If it leaks down, you can often get new rings and seals for them. This is if you are up for repairing it.

I am not trying to talk you out of a new jack, but there may be other options. I hate to see stuff like this get junked if it is repairable.

I replaced a seal and the oil about 7 years ago. I broke the spring that holds the handle in place about 4 years ago.

I can't source a new one and my husband is getting sick of the handle not staying up.

I have an old sears pro quick lift that went out
I think it's seals, but for the life of me I can't open it. Starting to think it's welded closed - anyone ever seen that?

That's the one I have as well and have been very happy with it. I use it for basic stuff like oil changes, tire rotations, brake jobs, etc (even jacked up my Kamado Joe to change the casters) and have never felt unsafe using it. Even use HF jack stands.

Now, if I was having to pick it up and move it from place to place, I would go aluminum because it's heavy, but for rolling around the garage and driveway? It's perfect.

Question for everyone, I would like to upgrade the factory jack in my SUV. I had a flat recently and I sure hate the factory jack where you have to turn a screw to raise it.

Do y'all just carry one of these low profile HarborFreight models around or do you have another suggestion?

This is a better travel companion than a large floor jack:
https://www.harborfreight.com/2-ton-compact-trolley-jack-64874.html

You could also consider a bottle jack

Thanks. I'll look into to those.

I also found I need to carry around a U-Haul blanket to lay on underneath the suv as I was trying to crawl under the SUV in my church clothes. What a disaster.

Whatever you do, make sure it's secured well. A jack flying through the cab in an accident can easily kill someone.

Is it the jack itself or the hassle of having to turn the screw with a crappy little tool?

If it's the latter, look at grabbing something like this as it will be cheaper and easy to story in the vehicle.

You have to turn using these bars. The turning screw is close to the ground.

I picked up an adapter to use a 3/8" impact and it seems to work well.
