Trying to get a feel on the size of the traveler.

Looks to be between a Tahoe and 4 runner. In your segment i side the traveler, it looked, surprisingly, a bit smaller than I expected.

I was so excited to be in it, I wish I had take more time to get a feel for it. It definitely feels wider inside than a 4runner/gx type. Leg room in the 2nd row was pretty good but that did compromise the cargo area a little compared to something like a tahoe with 3rd row folded down.

If you look at the split tailgate from the inside you can tell it's not a finished product. There's panel that folds down to give you a smooth transition from cargo to tailgate, and with the hatch closed it looks weird. Not flush. I'm sure that will be fixed between now and production.

Regarding Harvester, they are being cagey and I get it. Talked for quite a while with Jamie, who runs all their community stuff and you can tell they want to say more, but can't. One thing I can say is I DON'T expect it to have Ramcharger like function/capability in terms of long sustained towing. That's just not their target. I think the best we can hope for is that it can perform like normal for long multi-day stretches away from a charger. And I did find it funny that Dre pointed out those modes in the UX. Kinda inadvertently told us more than anyone else would.

thanks

I've been watching Ramcharger too. At 14k towing, I wonder if it's a viable competitor to my 3/4T diesel.

My wife sometimes tows the smaller horse trailer with her suburban. I think 250 miles one-way would be the limit in an SUV. Anything longer would be in the pickup. Most of it would be 150 and under.

Even with the Ramcharger platform, I think the Grand Wagoneer is likely out. Price point is just dumb IMO.

Damn, I have no need for a vehicle, but watching that video, definitely makes me want one.

I think these look pretty enough, but if you want a throwback "SUV" if you will I'd still prefer the Ineos Grenadier, though I think there are a couple annoying drawbacks to those (I can't remember but I think we have a few owners on this forum). It does have a BMW engine/drivetrain that, while not the best for longevity, is fairly well proven.

Steering is one I have read about several times.

Steering is not great, even by solid axle standards. Annoying speed chimes. If you're into the off-road stuff it's all a bit cumbersome to use. Which is intentional.

Overall it's not a great vehicle to live with everyday. More comfortable than a Jeep but not great.

Then of course there's the EV aspect. Most people looking at Scout aren't cross shopping with ICE.

Yeah I think it was the speed chimes thing I recalled. I figure if you are getting a modernized classic like this with solid axles etc. the steering one would accept wouldn't rival a modern competitor without all the off-road stuff. I doubt many people will really cross-shop a Grenadier with a Scout EV, to be fair. Maybe a Jeep/Bronco.

Scout CEO on Jay Lenos garage yesterday with disappointing news.... towing limited to 5k on the SUV and the Terra truck WITH RANGE EXTENDER ....

EV only still projected at 10k truck and 7k suv. Presumably due to location of generator over rear axle. I'd give up the "frunk" in a heartbeat for the extra towing capacity.

bummer

My Scout contact is tapping the brakes on the 5k figure for Terra+harvester. Nothing is in stone yet.

The extra wheelbase alone should tell us the Terra will tow more than the Traveler regardless of configuration. I would still be surprised if the Terra doesn't tow 7k or more even with the Harvester. We'll see. That's still not a huge number, but it's useful for most people.

You're not alone with the frunk comments, but it's just not gonna happen. They want to be able to pivot production on a dime and that means all the changes for Harvester need to be under the skin.

5k seems too low. 6-7k seems about right - that's the same as some midsize pickups, crossover SUVs like Pathfinder and Explorer. Plenty for most light and medium duty around town towing I occasionally do.

My 2008 F150 with 4.6L V8 is rated for like 6-7k, so this all seems reasonable. I never expected them to tow like a Max Tow package Ecoboost

looks like I'm probably out on this (unfortunately). need min 7k in the traveler for my mission profile. will keep waiting for another option. maybe if the ramcharger works out, I'll see what I need in a future waggoneer.

also keeping an eye on what DeBoss is doing up in Canada

Yes, got a generic "Thank you for your reservation, here's a link to our website" email

Production still supposedly on schedule to start 2nd half of 2027.

Other than that hasn't been much news lately. They reworked the prototypes a little with new colors and accessories, and had them at the Stockyards the other day. They look so sharp.

I'm still in line for BEV truck. If the SUV could be had with a bench seat, that might change my mind.

I put my $100 down as soon as it was possible to do it. I'm pretty excited by the idea. This could replace my Range Rover, ideally. I love the RR but 8mpg is pretty lame most of the time. I agree that the 5K tow limit on the range extended version may kill it for me, though. We'll see what the final product looks like.
'03ag
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I'd say 90% chance they both are available with the bench

I feel like I've read recently that the towing capacity was actually expected to stay around 7k. Cant recall where I read it though.

I put in for the SUV with gas extender as soon as this was announced. I'm hoping we can survive in my wife's 4Runner until this makes it to market.

There's a few things happening right now

1. a lot still TBD, they don't even have full on test mules at this point.
2. Scout hasn't been great at communicating this stuff.
3. Auto media/social media/msg boards etc are huge games of telephone and a lot of speculation gets repeated as fact.

I think #2 has a lot to do with production being a long way out, and them wanting to stay in the news.

Sometimes #3 is deliberate in my opinion. Full BEV evangelists are eager to dumb on the range extender. The ICE 'til I die camp is eager to dumb on anything with a battery.

You still have a ton of people saying the Harvesters will go 350 miles on a full EV charge and that the range extender gets you the extra 150. This is completely backwards which has been confirmed by Scout a billion times. They'll hear none of it.

The CEO probably should've just said that the Harvester might reduce towing capacity a little and left it at that for a while. My guess is they're concerned about the impact to weight distribution and payload the harvester will have on the towing numbers. Sounds fair, but there's still a ton of time to work on that.
PMD03
How long do you want to ignore this user?

That would be nice. I also wonder how much of a stickler they will be with the reservation. I reserved full BEV truck.
cavscout96
How long do you want to ignore this user?

Just move the harvester to the front. I'd take increased towing over frunk 11 times out of 10.
YouBet
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
So, I understand what you are saying....a full EV charge only gets 150 miles without the extender? Isn't that at least half of what all other EV cars get? So that means you are forced to buy the extender because otherwise what's the point of getting this?

That seems woefully uncompetitive just factoring EV range.

350 miles for the pure EV version (larger battery pack than the EREV version)

Ok, so not the opposite as above.
'03ag

Full EV - 350 miles range. Although I suspect they'll over deliver on that.

EREV - 150 miles of pure EV. Range extender adds another 350 miles for a total of 500.

Trying to decide between the truck and suv. Does the $100 just give you the right to purchase one later down the road?

You specify your model and y/n on the harvester engine. But there will be opportunity to change it later on.

I'm really liking this as a potential 4Runner replacement in a few years given I don't like the new one.

Any idea what sort of warranty they'll offer on one of these? I'm also concerned about service and warranty work in general given how new it will be. Hopefully there's a plan there too.
