I'm suddenly more interested in a Scout.
Got a chance to talk to their Community manager. Still nothing on specs but won't be the last time we get to talk to them. This wasn't even half the conversation but the rest was off the record. Hopefully we'll get to say more later.

I wish they'd just slap the most powerful engine VW offers in there, start production, and they could take my money now...
This article is getting a ton of buzz but there's not really any substance to it.
It's just click bait exaggeration of news we've already had, but with a worst case scenario twist.
The plant isn't even scheduled to be finished until late 2027. This has been known. Meaning first units aren't going to go out until very late 2027 at BEST. This also isn't news. The vast majority of reservation holders won't get theirs until 2028 if everything goes flawlessly.
IHIOGA that the plant is ahead of schedule. At the moment. But this is a massive undertaking. This isn't a new model, it's a whole new company.

They switched GC's after they started earthwork, I can't imagine the plant is actually on schedule.

Exactly. Early Bronco enthusiasts went through production delays due to supplier issues, and Ford wasn't starting from scratch either.
They definitely are overthinking it but it's cool to see all the thought going into it

I made it to the part where the guy claimed the sound of the blinker relay was "interestingly connected to blues music" before I had to rewind and see if that's actually what he said. I think it's a cool vehicle, but I could do without all the cork-sniffing on the development.

Like you shift into Drive and it's the crack of a base hit.

With all the sound throwbacks to the 1970s, it made me question who they think their buyer is. Especially going all EV.
And the price point. I'm assuming it's got to be $70,000 ish.

I've got access to 8-10 Scouts/Scout II/C and D series pickups, and a Wagonmaster. All needing extensive work, but I've contemplated spending $ to rebuild/modernize them and flipping if the new electric Scouts ever come out and nostalgia starts bumping cost of original designs similar to what happened with old Broncos

I'm liking the range extended version less and less. Putting the engine behind the axle on a truck is moronic to say the least. Scout clearly f-ed up. The range extender was a last minute addition and not part of the real plan.
The VW Group does have plenty of experience with engines being placed behind the rear axle
No question anyone looking for this to tow 10k like a truck with unlimited range is going to be disappointed. Scout wasn't conceived for that market.

Americans like their trunks and rear loading. Going to make a truck - Who wants their heavy load on top of the bed? How will this help cooling? Is it really not meant to be a heavy use truck and instead wanna-be truck? If I put a heavy load back there, will the front end rise up?? After all, no forward weight to counter….
If I want to load groceries (or whatever) in my car in a parking lot - do I now always have to back in so I can load into my car "Fronk"?? (Front trunk) that they're bragging about.

Yeah, but if you're like most Americans and don't actually use a truck for truck things, then this will give better weight distribution and handling.
Yeah, now you don't have to throw sand or cement bags in the bed to get rear traction in the winter (not necessary for EVs anyway)
Kill the frunk and out the dang thing in the normal engine bay.
