We're ready to downsize from a Yukon to a sedan for something more economical but also fun. I test drove this and fell in love. Does anyone have first hand experience? TIA

Inline 6 turbo which is how bmws should be. Like any bmw, cost of ownership is quite high and they are generally best dumped on some poor sap when they are 5-6 years old and/or outside of warranty.

I've had a couple diesel BMW's. That's where it's really at.

Have been that sap on 3x 3-series. But they are still fun to drive. The only problems I had were O2 sensor and interior glue that could not hold up when parked outside in Texas summers. Go manual if you can.

I have a friend who has the convertible version. It's quick.

B58 is a great engine. So far it has shown to be reliable. If I had to buy a new sedan today, I would choose the same.

The M340i is only available in an auto, so disregard the poster who said "go manual". I think manually transmissions are only available in the upper end "real" M cars.

The B58 is a great engine. Solid as can be. BMW has also become an extremely reliable brand.

The only issue is the BMW tax. Any repairs are going to be expensive. Your major routine maintenance is also going to be pricy. Just keep all of that in mind. Otherwise, buy with confidence.

I'm probably moving from an F150 to the M340i later this year.

Love my 11 year old 135is. Still just as fun to drive, even without all the new fancy tech in current models. After the pump went out under warranty, it's been rock solid. Maintenance has been reasonable. Most expensive thing is replacing the (very expensive) tires, since it burns through them every 20k miles.

If not for the buckteeth on new models, I'd stick with another bmw when it's time to replace it, but I just can't get over how hideous their current beaver design is.

I have a 2011 M3 DCT that has been mainly trouble free, only had to replace a sensor during extended warranty.

German cars are all about preventive maintenance as long as you don't get the models that are known to be faulty/bad. M340 can last you over 10 years with proper care and not abuse in the worst possible way.
