My passenger tail light is out on my 2016 Yukon. I took it to have the light replaced while I waited - automotive repair place that we have used for years once our vehicles are out of warranty. Apparently a burned out tail light requires the entire LED assembly to be replaced and that part is proprietary to GM and has a price tag of $799. The labor to install is $37.50. With tax, grand total is pushing $1000. Holy cow. For a freaking tail light. Is there a better way???

The OE part on rock auto is 667 and 50 of that. The part number the show on there gets you to

To repair yours for $139. Still stupid expensive but not $1000

To his point for less than half of what they wanted to charge you could get both lights fixed with same day turnaround with a 5 year warranty from that website he posted.

there should be a recall or campaign on it. if it isn't covered, there is or was a guy on ebay that can fix them cheap.

Actually, I see the guy on eBay - his refurbished assembly is $399. I sill think that is complete insanity for a tail light. Ugh.

Thanks for everyone's guidance - I appreciate it!

I may have a lot of problems with my Jeep, but a $1000 tail light ain't one of them!

I think I paid around 6 bucks for new bulbs for my 97 OBS F250….these examples are the reason why it's the only truck I have now. Put a new alternator on it….$269 and about 45 minutes…. Put a new vacuum pump on it….$119 and about 45 minutes…. Put a new power steering pump and high pressure hose…$100 and about an hour and half.

Couldn't imagine what all that would've cost on my 2016 I got rid off last month.

Glad that they didn't charge you for blinker fluid

I followed some YouTube videos and Yukon forums to fix mine. YouTube Yukon taillight repair.

Not particularly difficult as long as you're decent with a soldering gun. Worst part is melting the plastic of the case back into place.

Still absurd that it's an issue. I've had to fix both rear lights.

People can make a pretty decent side hustle out of going to the junkyard and pulling headlight and tail light assemblies off late model cars and selling on ebay. Certain cars are more in demand than others, but since most OEM assemblies are 600-1000 dollars it makes for easy money. Plenty of 200-400 dollar OEM lights on ebay. Pay the man and stay legal.

There is a gm extended warranty on this issue.

If you happen to be under 6 years from original service date or under 72,000 miles, then it is covered under Ed a gm special coverage program

If not, then I think that you are out of luck

I ended up having both mine replaced under warranty

You won't find these cars at junkyards. Likely with used car prices they are fixed rather than totaled and if they are totaled they are sent to a professional chopshop

I just sat down to order from Circuit Board Medics, but I do believe my car is still within the 6 years of original service mark. Am calling the dealership when they open.

Thank you, everyone, for your advice!
