I gave it my all! My high bid was 32500. More than I thought it would take. Hammered at 34k. What's your opinion on price? By the way, none of this would have happened if you would not have sold your 40 out from under me!
Wait. My friend, I am not convinced that is necessary, is it? I sure feel that with some patience and study you can find something more reasonable. I don't know exactly what you are looking for but reddog and I communicated all through his buying experience - the highs and the lows - and he eventually found a great example for *much less than insane market price*. During that time frame another poster on here bought a 72 out of New Mexico that didn't float reddog's boat for what I thought was a steal for original paint desert truck. I know you are looking to fill a project spot - what are we shopping for?

Thanks, glad I lost it honestly. To me it was worth 23k or so max with correct motor, I got a little carried away. Maybe a lot. I talked to the owner on mud about it, and got that this is the one feeling. He was willing to store it in his climate controlled shop for any amount of time which I liked. Would avoid my wife finding out about it until I finished my dads first gen Tundra. I got carried away. Should be able to find a nice original paint cruiser for 20k or less

Hey, I understand the deal. I have bought trucks, antiques, show steers, you name it because I had that "this is the ONE"... feeling and sometimes I was unlucky enough to win the bid! I'm certainly not dogging you for making a good run at a very nice 40 - I just have this feeling that what you want is out there without having to spend that much. I'm off to help search....

Everytime I think I leave the brotherhood I spend more money or fire it up. Ha! I actually went down last weekend with my brother.

Been thinking of ripping the 4" out and slapping the 2.5 OME or taking it straight into fabbing a South Texas hunting rig out of it

Wife and I decided that instead of an RTT, we'd do a sleeping platform inside our 100 series. I didn't like any of the commercial offerings. We're starting small, no need for drawers, and everything is so heavy!

I started scanning the cargo area to design a platfom. The idea is super light with only 4 legs so there's plenty of space for bins or cubbies. Legs will use stock seat mounting points. We'll add dividers and such later if we need them. Platform will most likely be 3/4" aluminum honeycomb, though that may change as we get further along.

The windows keep throwing off scan tracking, so I need to cover them. The mesh quality will very significantly improve (and be useful) after that.

I am astonished it sold for $34. I am way out of touch with the current market conditions.

After 4.5 months of haggling with corporate and talking to 5 different dealerships, I finally got the '91 fuel tank recall completed on Marge.

I worked on my 40 over the New Year break - painted the inside of the tub, rebuilt park brake, installed clutch & trans, got the hump and shifters back in, tank and tank cover, replaced all the rubber fuel lines…. Was going to put the seat frames back but things were looking so good inside I decided to order some plated fasteners instead of my old rusty ones.

Just need some throttle linkage parts to be delivered and I'll go work under the hood a while.

That's hot.

Yep, it's not that far from what I'm after. I don't really like the mounting or height. Height is easily fixable I guess, but I want to use OEM attachments to constrain the platform. So many legs! We're planning on removing second row seats anytime we take a trip to gain more inside storage, so won't be able to use them for support, either.

Have you considered a BJ74 or HZJ73 instead of a 40? You could get a LHD 73 through Joe in Dallas area.

Thank you. When you and I spoke many, many moons ago it was covered with a carpet kit. I didn't dig the carpet vibe so I tore it out and of course what was under there was a smearing of grey POR15 with a ton of spray adhesive and carpet fibers stuck to it. It's far from ideal, but I used a combination of heat gun, acetone, and a LOT of elbow grease to get the surface where I could put a passable coat of matching color. This is a driving work on progress - I think a few trips down some back roads or haul to CO will be ideal for evening the finish out.

Okay. CP I'm doing it. I'm selling the FJ40 gonna get it all put in a post I'll refer it back. How much do you think your welds being on it raise the price? 10x?
Centerpole90
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
To make sure it sells, tell the prospective customer to bring it by and I will grind those welds off free of charge!

For the board - Jrod and I have been talking offline about his plans for a hunting rig. Even though he's put a lot of work in his 40 and he's partial to it... the fact is - an FJ40 just isn't the ideal platform for the high seat south texas hunting rig with all the accoutrements that he has in mind.

I miss my 40 sometimes. But I feel like a HZJ73 could be the sweet spot for me later on. Creature comforts like my 60, but mid wheel base, removable top, DIESEL. Parts could be even harder to find than for my 60. And I'll need the space of the 60 for little kids for a long time.

We should! Good idea.

My 40 has been posted here before. Long project I'm kind of sad to see go but it's got a newer crate 350 with prolly 60k on it. Landcruiser specialist here in Austin rebuilt the ******. New gas tank OEM ( that was wild picking up a 73 gas tank from a Toyota dealer) new power steering pump new radiator, new odyssey battery, new bfg mud terrains, new bilstien shocks, new Downey clutch. Haven't installed the 73 warm winch I found to rebuild nor have I installed the cool cruisers of Texas wheel well. And don't forget CP welded a hitch on the bumper….

I think I know where there is a fiberglass hard top - I think it would be like the one on streetfighter's 43. A fellow Ag here uses a 40 as a hunting vehicle and he told me he wanted to sell the top because he's moving and doesn't plan to ever use it. It's in the RGV.

Picked up a really really clean 2013 over the weekend. Love the truck already. Prior owner had just installed Dobinsons suspension front and rear, new upper control arms, Dobinsons rear drawer system, new BFG AT tires and spider trax spacers. Excited to dig into the LC community a bit more - already addicted to IH8MUD.

Been meaning to ask. What size tires?

I currently have Rock Warriors and 285/70/17s, but thinking about ditching it all and going back to 18s with stock size. The biggest issue is the road manners and braking of the bigger tires. I've had fun and the LC looks super cool (if I may say so), but I don't ever take it offroad anymore. We drive it everywhere, however, and I think the wife is getting annoyed with all the downsides that come with the meats.

285/65/18 BFG AT K02. Now running a 1.25" spacer on all corners. Needed to remove a couple of small mud flap pieces upfront but no rubbing even at full lock. Prob could have done bigger, but I think the tire size works well with the modest lift. Only real downside on the AT's is the tire pressure, I believe, is supposed to run higher than other tires I'm used to (42+psi) which does make ride a bit harsher

Are you in Houston? If you ditch the RWs (and possibly tires) I'd be interested and if you're interested in '21 LC stockers with 275/70/18 Cooper AT3 XLTs maybe we could work something out.
