Anyone know where to find a good price on OME/ARB suspension kits without installation? Looking at BP-51 kit for LC200.

Rocky road outfitters has had the best ARB prices Ive found. May want to check with toyota of dallas also.

Toyota of Dallas also provides parts discounts if you are a TLCA member FYI

80 vs 100 for

-weekend trips and car camping around TX
-longer trips to Big Bend, San Juans, Utah
-not interested in serious rock crawling

Do I need an 80? I know the 80 is a tank but does it lack power once you are loaded down to go somewhere? Watching videos of HIH and Expedition Overland, I feel like I would be more than fine in a 100 for what interests me. Is one easier for a noob to work on than the other? Just wondering if I really need a triple locked solid axle vehicle.

Both are about equally difficult to work on. 100 will have a timing belt potential change, 80 will have lots of gaskets and seals to replace.

The triple diff in the 80 is a (somewhat) rare feature and not found on a lot of them - I would wager less then 25%. The normal 80 and 100 should be more than sufficient. If you're going on long trips, the 100 is by far the better choice.

Thanks. I've messaged a few people on mud that moved from 80s to 100s and heard similar opinions. It would be different if I lived in CO and didn't have to drive so far to get to cool *****

I would also seriously consider the Lexus GX470. It's still a Land Cruiser (LC Prado in other markets), has the same engine as the 100 (2UZ-FE) and a very capable machine. Some of the latter GXs even had KDSS which is phenomenal off road.

I enjoyed that so much that I'm now 'Up to Speed' on about 5 other things.

The one on the Plymouth Superbird was pretty funny.

Opinions on 100s values?

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2001-landcruiser-san-antonio.1046465/ - seems a little high

https://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/2002-lx470-164k-miles-very-nice-condition.1047309/ - Seems a little high but nice condition and unmolested

Looking for some advice from you LC folks, I am on a deer lease in south Texas, and was wanting a jeep. I have had a few jeeps but my wife has pretty much given me the go ahead to switch to FJ40 if I can fit in our budget. The thinking is my boys who are 6 and 4 will have a iconic machine to tinker with when they are older and we pull it off the lease. We will leave it at the lease from Sept to Jan and have it back to drive around the rest of the year.

My question is can I find a FJ40 in the 7-10k range and have it reliable enough to be a lease vehicle and then start fixing in offseason over the years, any advice? I am located in Leander outside of Austin. Is this a pipe dream and should I stick to finding a jeep?

Anything to steer clear of? obviously I do not want a rust bucket. I see some have 350 v8s swapped when looking should I be concerned? Ideal year models I admit I know next to nothing about FJ40s

Thanks in advance for replies.

80 series would be way more reliable and practical for 7-10k. I think they are future classics.

Problem is I do want the windshield to fold, which rules out the 80.

Follow up question, any concern of buying one without a title? if the vin comes back clean, just go bonded title route?

Said like a true 80 series owner!

Nothing to add on the 40 series. I love them. No clue on reliability and effects of a deerlease workload.

If the top off, window down, 'jeep' feel is your goal; then yes, a 40 is your unit. Is it capable? - absolutely. A south Texas deer lease would be a Sunday stroll for most any LC IMHO. I wish we could get one of my fellow OB posters to come over and share some pics of the 40s hisbfanily has equipped for TX mule deer hunting - I think they would have you scouring the Web for one.

What's available in your price range that meets your expectations is a personal decision; but I've learned with patience (which I seldom exhibit) most reasonable desires can be met. Personally, I think part of the '40 vibe' gets lost after a SBC swap - that little lugging six is ideal for the deep sand south Texas has so much of - but again, that's up to you.

If you insist. First time I've ever been to the Automotive board.

No garage queens here...I don't take many pictures of LC's but every now and then they show up. Here are some from more than a decade of taking pictures...

Thanks sunchaser. You should visit more often, good group over here - and a soft landing spot when the OB board goes into one of its ammo shortage meltdowns.

The pics tell the story. 40s make great hunting vehicles.

CP, I agree with the sbc I really want it with the engine that comes in them from factory but I don't care if orginal, I have a lead on one that needs a lot of work, prolly an entire new rear tub, it has the parts there and I'm fine taking one that needs work but was hoping to shoot for a running rig in my range and the. Slowly get it going. Just not sure how realistic that is I am in no rush so patience shouldn't be too bad execpt that I want it now....

Sunchaser those are awesome.

Is it preferable to stay 1970+ don't look at 69s or did I just make that up?

Lease vehicles are big part of the fun to me. The one I went to last had:

Military Humvee
Jeep Wrangler
Jeep Grand Cherokee
Suzuki Samurai
Chevy 1/2 ton - High Lift with up top controls
2x Polaris Ranger 4 seaters
Gator 4 seater

None of them had doors and all were either spray painted or bedlined with seats, feeders or racks on the front and rear.

Jump on anyone you like and take off

Had my wife convinced for 36 hours that we needed to switch her dd from her '14 XC90 to an '08 200. No dice.

I approve this sort of determination.

Blue parachute for you.

On a related note; CPjrs battery was dead in his pu today. Guess who's got the coolest ride in the HS parking lot this AM.

I've seen you post interest in 40's, 80's, 100's, and now a 200. Time to pull the trigger! Can't go wrong with any.

Haha, thanks. The wife preferred a FJ over the Jeep.

The power steering cutout of the crossmember is a little shotty on the cuts but I'm not worried too much the hoses go around the grill which could cause concern on the lease with mesquite but I'll figure that out.
