Yup. I smiled, I knew it was so high. I called 2 other shops they still quoted over 700. Couldn't believe it honestly. That's why shops get bad names they claimed the rotors had huge gauges in them. Nope they didn't even need to be turned.

It's one of those information asymmetry things. I think most folks had at least a passing understanding of car repair back when nothing held up for very long. Plenty of folks may only see a shop once or twice while owning a car, so they have no frame of reference.Jrod05 said:

I try not to care, after all basically each season since 1998 has been disappointing, but every year I get my hopes up anyway.dubi said:You serious?Dill-Ag13 said:

I spent the weekend trying to fix broken ex. manifold bolts in a 5.3L ('04 Z71). Three of four broken bolts came out or got drilled/tapped. The tap broke off in the last one, and there's no hand-drilling that thing out. Exhaust still leaked. Got fed up and sold it to Texas Direct yesterday.

Facebook page? Ugh.
Tried that repeatedly on the one that I couldn't get out. I don't know if it was my cheap HF welder, my lack of welding ability, or that this particular bolt was just really seized up, but I had no luck. Strange because the Youtube videos I watched made it seem like the heat from welding would free it up to where it would back out with vice grips or channel locks, even if the nut didn't stick well. That was not the case for me, even after putting a molten cherry on the end of the thing at least a dozen times.silverado_lover said:North Dallas Forty oz. said:

Damn, RIP 5.3
That's an easy job with a welder, just stick a nut over the broken bolt, throw some doodoo weld on the bolt/in the threads and then loosen the nut.

Shouldn't have been an issue if everything was setup and working correctly.
The first attempt I made on a broken bolt was using solid wire without any shielding gas, I didn't think the weld needed to be that strong. I kept breaking that weld when trying to loosen the nut.
Finally slapped a flux core spool in the machine and then the bolt came out on the first try.
