I have a couple of these on RACETRUCK, cost effective and sound great. I have dual 3" w/ x-pipe and they have a deep, bassy rumble to them.

Saturday was not a banner day. CPjr was at FFA leadership camp all day. I should have been working but let everyone off because weatherman swore it was going to rain (it didn't), and I had to go to a birthday dinner for a cousin (tard/teasip family) about halftime of the Aggie game.

So i put the grille on to pick up my spirits.

Aside from the fact it makes you stop when you push on the pedal... brake fluid has no redeeming qualities. It peels paint, it's like liquid rust on bare metal, it tastes like ass if you get a whiff of it, and like a convict with nothing to do but plot his escape 24\7 it lies in wait anticipating the moment when you least expect it to come drizzling out of some obscure joint you know you tightened 10x.

Today was one of the first times I thought 'this isn't worth it'. That said, it wasn't our flares that were giving me fits, it was the ones from the CPP master cylinder/prop valve connection. I looked close and one of the inverted flares was a little egg shaped, so I tightened it up until I thought the threads would strip on the fitting - and it quit leaking... or at least I think it did. I'll know more tomorrow. I really wish now we'd done 4 wheel discs, but too late, we are powering ahead. CPjr helped with the bleeding after school. He missed most of the cussing though.

ETA - while laying under there bleeding the rear wheel cylinders I found that CPjr actually missed a few spots when de-spidering the bed. Holy sh*t. I don't know which is worse; brake fluid or spiders. I guess spiders. Why does it have to be spiders? Why not butterflies?

I am praying that by the end of the day the brakes are laid to rest. Nothing leaked last night, so I'll continue bleeding later, hopefully by the time school is out I can let CPjr idle it out of the barn.

Ricky Bobby didn't need no brakes. Why do you need brakes? Do you want your boy to be a loser? If you're not first your last!

There you go fellers. CPjr and I discussed who was going to be first to pull it out of barn - he insisted I do it. So I tried to make it memorable.

At least it can move under its own power. That's a start.

BADASS! That truck sounds awesome! And you were brave to burn out coming out of the shop. I would be afraid of power sliding into the side of the door opening.

You sir, win the interwebs today.

Thank you IDAGG (and all), it is not often that I win the interwebs; so with your permission, I think I'll take the rest of the day off!

As far as the burnout, it wasn't smart, and it definitely drifted toward the door; I could feel it, and lifted. We have a roll/launch control installed but it's not wired in yet - I liked what I felt w/ the converter, I think the combo will lend itself to lot of white tire smoke.

That's open headers. I haven't committed on exhaust yet - I may get crazy online tonight and order something then take it to town next week and get the exhaust run.

1. Wrap up some wiring loose ends / wire A/C harness in / lower the steering column inside so the instruments can come out
2. Install the standalone electric fan harness
3. Put the old seat in for now
4. Haul it to town for exhaust

Then start thinking of taking it somewhere for a tune. It idles like **** right now. On the first firings it idled fast but smooth. Now it lopes BAD (duh) and dies at idle. I'm hoping a tune fixes that, or maybe I could have injector issues?? Anyway, lots to do before panicking about that.

'Bout time. You should have had this done in 6 months... assuming you had a cousin to help you.

I credit that to 2 things - The biggest factor is that the truck was perfectly patina'd and that's why we bought it. I would never compare what we did to a frame-off, new finish, factory restoration. Mechanically, yes, we've turned every nut and every bolt and everything below skin deep is either new or made to be like new . However, not having all that time and effort in body work, paint, or a $25k body shop bill has shaved a lifetime off the project.

#2 is the want to have it done before CPjr left home. That's been a goal and I think we'll get there, but if something befell us this afternoon and we never touched it again - it's been a ball. Funny, that's Apr - Oct of 2017. Hahahaha. If my cousin had been worth a damn we'd have made it!!!!!!!

We're not done yet, hopefully great things to come, and the Ags play LSU in Kyle this year, the drive isn't that far......

That is simply awesome. Carry on!

(Brake work sucks...tonight I get to start replacing a rusted-out line on my 98 Z71...it's spraying fluid out just aft of the gas tank. Hopefully no spiders though.)

Thank God for simple instructions. I pulled the dual electric fan controller out this morning in preparation for working on it this evening. I've been tickled with the quality of my Entropy radiator and when I have a question the dude himself answers the phone - that's always a plus. Then I was looking over the wiring harness and I got tickled at these warning labels. I'd say that he's stated it pretty simply and in doing so made instructions that are worth reading before acting.... Thought y'all might enjoy.

If this was Aggie Bonfire, we would be in Push right now. For those who never had the opportunity to participate, in the final phase of building Bonfire was called PUSH and when it started the work continued non-stop around the clock. Until now we've worked largely together when we could after school and on weekends - but it's time to finish and with Senior year in full swing it's time to get this done.

So Dear Diary, this has been a big week. I worked until after midnight a couple times this week and got a lot of pesky things accomplished. Thank goodness for Cody Jinks or Lost Immigrants radio on Spotify to keep me and the mosquitos company.

Most of the times I take a picture or video the truck is laid out. It can get up there too. We don't know exactly where the ride height is that we'll have the front end aligned for - but this is with the front A arms just past horizontal; there is probably another inch or so higher it could go. The jack stands are there to make sure I don't die if I nick an air line when working on it.

Wow. This is the second Vintage Air I've put in a 67-72 but, man, I didn't remember there being THAT much ductwork (there was though). The ECM being behind the dash is a big factor - glad we had the radio delete because NO WAI a radio was going to fit. I think we will eventually opt for the hideaway bluetooth audio source CorpAg12 suggested in another thread.

Checking off a task means posting new one, but after a thousand renditions of 'To Do' lists we are getting close to the end. If I/we have a good day today and get some done over the weekend; I hope I can load it up Monday or Tuesday and haul it to town for exhaust. I spoke with Josh at Josh's Performance Tune, that was recommended by Silvy's friend, and he told me 'any day'. Since he's all the way over at the other end of the RGV he said call the day before and he'd give me the next morning so we could get it all tuned.

This is where it sat last night. The Smash Hit grill guard was the Ranch Hand of the day and it brings back a part of my youth. Every truck my Dad had all the way through the square bodies had a Smash Hit on it. On the outside this truck is ready to go to the field and do work.

Friday night CPjr and I got the instrument panel wired in for good. It's been in and out and functional for a while but it felt good to remove the protective film from the gauges and put in for *hopefully* the last time. I'm also glad we got to do it at night... because these things really POP with the lights on! They are Dakota Digital and all have the look and feel of the original gauges, but they're all precision stepper motor driven and in combination with a wiring harness built for them in mind, they really make the LS swap work like it should.

The intake is in place. I think that was the last piece that required much fabrication. Unless I'm missing something it's pretty much just reassembly from here. A/C Lines. Wiring. Hood. Cowl. Interior. I. Hope.

This is on the front bumper. Truck was sold new in Killeen, guy I bought it from found it on a cotton farm in San Angelo, and I bought it in Colorado City. That's not a bad area for a truck to age. From the outset though, I have noticed a lot of castle nuts showing up where they don't really belong, like on all the bumper bolts and on all the engine and transmission mounts. I have a gut feeling that at one time this truck belonged to someone who worked in shop at Hood. I didn't come across anything safety wired, but whoever worked on it once before probably knew all about how to. Does this parking decal mean anything to anyone? What decade it would be from? 70s? 80s?
