I'm pissed. I had the window tint professionally almost 2 years ago and told them I wanted it legal. In fact, I didn't go as dark as legally possible then.

The car passed inspection last year just fine.

WTF? Has there been a law change or something???

My windows were like 2 points too dark.

Roll your windows down during the next inspection. That's always worked for me.

Except you are now required to get re-tested at the same station now, and all records are electronic so they will see that you were flagged for tint last time and check it again.

Take your receipt/warranty info for tint and inspection fail certificate and demand a free re-tint.

The law changed. Its now 25% on the front instead of 20%.

I asked my state insp rep if there is a grandfather clause, he said very matter of factly NOPE!

Bend over, take it nothing you can do. Get them retinted.

I'll happily test your tint for nothing if you want a 2nd opinion and you art in BCS.

I used to have 5 or 10 on my front windows, had two separate places roll the windows up to inspect it. One guy told me to take it to a rough part of town where the failure rate higher and they won't even check the windows.

I've had 20% in the front since 2003. No problems so far. Just got car inspected in July and passed.

This.

I've never had a problem even with some blatant issues (emissions, etc.). The places aren't hard to find. Keep your eyes open and ask around. And if you're from a small town, that helps. Go back to that town and find someone you know.

I miss the days of Quicker Sticker in College Station, where the guy walked out to my car, told me to back up a foot, honk the horn, activate the wipers, and handed me my sticker. Never had to leave the car.

When was it ever 20% on the front?

I remember it used to be 20% the rear and now there are no restrictions.

I have 20% on my SHO front doors, 15% on the rear doors and rear window, and 70% on the front windshield.

Truck has 18% on the Front doors and limo over privacy glass on the rear doors and window.

FJ has 35% on the front.

WP has 35% on the front and 18% on the rear.

For as long as I can remember

20% fronts
5% rear sides
5% backglass

Now as of sept 1 2009 it is

25% front sides

Side Windows to The Right and Left of The Driver
Sunscreening devices can be applied to the side windows to the right and left of the driver if the following conditions are met.

1.Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a light transmittance value of 25% or more.
2.Sunscreening devices, when measured in combination with the original glass, have a luminous reflectance value of 25% or less.

When I was attempting to get my car inspected in August, I was told the law was changing in September. Went to one of the "rougher" places and inspection passed.

1ags, Ive wanted to do my front windshield. How did handle the inspection sticker and registration? does your SHO have auto windshield wipers and does it have any effect?

I am dark as can be all around, and I take it to the hood for inspections... never had an issue.

Cars brand new. I used a heat gun to get the stickers soft and then put them back over the tint.

When it comes time to inspect it, I'll just do it myself. If I can pass chargers with bald tires, a little tint never hurt nobody.

I dont have auto wipers, but If I did, I would just cut out the little segment where the 'eye' was. Keep in mind I paid extra for the ceramic tint.

I drive an Ifiniti 2002 Q45 w/a full IMPUL body kit,(think AMG) with legal tint for CA. I drove back in late june and it was 103 at 9 pm in arizona. I went to HomeDepot and got some cling tint used for house windows.
cut it to fit and drove on to Texas. I will tell you that the limo dark really made a difference in keeping the car cool.
Going thru Walnut Creek (south of Stephenville), I got pulled over.....for tint.
Bottom line was, he thoughjt I was running drugs in the lowered body sections. He asked if he could 'look around' and I said sure. (he really picked the wrong guy....never even seen drugs)
I also run custom underbody panels to smooth the air flow. He'd never seen anything like that......we had a good laugh when he was done. I peeled off the cling while I was waiting and he didn't even give me a ticket. All three of the local sherrifs had pulled up and had me 'blocked'. I know I should have taken pics!
THe best part was he was feeling the carpet and floor mat and found a 'hard object'....it was the a\c flow tube to the back seats!

I had 5% tint on my yukon in high school. First time I needed it inspected I had to go to 3 different places before finding one that would pass it. After that I went there every year.

You can go that route, or slip them a little extra cash and tell them if anyone asks you got the windows tinted after the inspection.
