I used to love the catfish at Chuck's in Temple. And I grant that my taster if off due to being sick. That said I went yesterday and ordered my usual and it was totally different. So salty I could barely eat it. I brought it home and took off the coating and the fish itself was that salty. And instead of the cornmeal coatiing, it had some sort of hard batter with big hard crumbs. Not the same recipe at all. The catfish at Dead Fish is good, but it is batter fried.

I want some like the old Catfish King with the light cornmeal coating. Any suggestions of a new place to try?

Might try Jody's. Isn't Wes's only open at lunch? I used to go there when it was out of town, but not once since it moved into Temple. I am not comfortable at Oscar store as a single diner. There are few places I will go eat when I have to go in and eat alone. I know that is strange, but I am an "elderly" woman and sadly pretty much limited to places that have pick up orders or drive through windows.

Serious. I am an older women and hate eating out anywhere,, much less somewhere crowded where I take up a table while people are waiting. I HATE eating out alone, and sadly that is the case for my life. So I almost always have to have somewhere with carry out or a drive through.

Is Kevins still there, at 2305 and 2271?

There is a Mikeska's BBQ in Belton before you get to Sparta Road. It has an excellent fried catfish or fried shrimp plate. Nice people. Never extremely busy. Just an alternative to those already mentioned.
