A couple of weeks ago professional fireworks were shot off from the jetty in front of the Rainforest Cafe. Now this afternoon I noticed them setting up for fireworks again. Anyone have any idea what they're for? I've looked online and can't find a thing about them.

At least I've got my beers and I'm ready for the show.

I imagine it must be related to Mardi Gras, although I've seen nothing in the paper about it. Unless it might be related to something going on at the convention center.

Yeah, I'm thinking a Mardi Gras Crew's kick-off party or something.

Myself, my brother and several of his friends are headed to Mardi Gras the first weekend (as we do every year if the weather cooperates) for the parades on the beach on Saturday and then meeting at Sonny's afterwards. Hope Mother Nature is kind this year.

sonny's is the best. shrimp burger dressed, fries, and a chili cheese dog.....with about 3 dr. peppers.

Yep.....have had the shrimp burger and the chili cheese dog (you almost need a shower after eating that). The gumbo (Fridays only) and muffulettas are great also.

You live in Texas City, so why are you only coming for the first weekend?

Our group has always gotten together the first Saturday for the parades along the seawall. We get there early and park cars/trucks together and rent a cheap motel room across the street just for restroom facilities. There are kids in our group and some of the "sights" on the Strand might be a little too educational for them. Might also go the second weekend, but dealing with parking around downtown is a major pain.

The ones a couple of weeks ago were for a McCoy's convention.
