I graduate in May and my job offer is on Port Arthur. Is there any upside to this city?

Here's a thread for you:

Quick recap: No to Port Arthur.

But there are good people and good areas in West Beaumont, Nederland, Port Neches, Groves, Lumberton, China, and Sour Lake.

pt arthus is a pit ! we live in mid county (nederland). and depending on what part of pt. arthur your job will be, its anywhere from 2min. to about 8min.to pt. arthur. Work there and live somewhere else. All will be good.

Stay away from PA. Nederland is probably the nicest place that is close. Beaumont isn't too far away and there are nice places there. Do not live in PA for any reason.

I've got a house on Pleasure Island with a fishing pier that I've been thinking about renting out. Let me know if you would be interested.

halfbean, I might be interested cause i'm starting to look for places. The job market isn't very good so I might have to take this offer, even so the pay isn't very good. If you are thinking of renting it out, as long as the rent isn't too much, i'd be interested. erikluton @ tamu . edu

I would not live in Pt. Arthur. Too much crime and poverty. I'm right down the road in the Orange-Mauriceville area, and it's not so bad. Look at Beaumont(west end), Lumberton, Nederland, Little Cypress-Mauriceveille, Vidor and Bridge City(recovering from Hurricane Ike, some great deals on property). If you move to the area and like to fish, Sabine lake is great for Specs, reds and flounder. If your into the freshwater thing, Lake Sam Rayburn and Toledo Bend aren't too far away.
