What are your best memories of Corpus?

I remember the old CCNB jingle that played at the airport: "I Got friends in Corpus Christi, at the double C N B"

I remember the A frame Der Weinershnitzels on Ayers and I think one on Weber Road.

There was a Burger Chef on SPID. Awesome Burgers.

SAMBOS!!! Later renamed to Dennys because people thought the name was racist.

And of course the schools I went to- Schanen Elementary, Chula Vista, Tom Browne, Martin, and CARROLL!!

Man, the wife and I were talking about that Buger Chef (and Jeff) on SPID the last time we were in Corpus. Here are a few we can think of;

- Margo Shaloo of the Decorator's Galley commercials
- The water slides (water park) on SPID, or maybe I just showed how old I was.
- That fantastic ice cream shop that used to be behind Channel 3 news.
- That giant women sign for the strip club Wolfies
- I agree with the sight of the "Sparkling City by the Sea" as seen coming back across the harbor bridge.
- Dinners with my family at the origninal Black Diamond Oyster Bar.
- Bucaneer Parade
- Being from Calallen, any time spent on the Nueces River!
- Cruising Sonic or parking there depending on whether your school was playing at home or your rival was. (Tuloso Midway or Calallen)

Now: coming back home from Austin or wherever over the Harbor Bridge at night. What a great sight.

I almost forgot about going aboard the USS Corpus Christi when it was at the port.

All the excitement about Homeport. I think KZFM made up a song to whatever band George Micheal was in at the time.

Smashing model airplanes into the side of LSF's house while they were tied to the end of a fishing pole.

LSF, PG, and me jumping on the trampoline at the See's house, them coming home, and us flipping the thing back over and jumping the fence to LSF's house.

The FBHS scavenger hunt, won by PG's team, because apparently, 10*100=10,000

Sitting outside during 10th grade math, so we could watch the Blue Angels flying overhead.

Blue Angels at the base. I lived for a year right on Oso Bay in the flight path. What a hoot that was. My backyard backed up to Oso Golf Course and I didn't have to pay for balls for several years. I fished half a dozen out of the backyard everyday.

I've done things there that go right in line with the Las Vegas slogan. I partied WAY too hard.

And I make the sad face because I regret most of them.

Another thing I remember was our old neighborhood by Stonegate Park. Our house was on Parliament, (I jokingly said we have a house of Parliament), and Flynn Parkway ended at Stonegate Way. There was a huge drainage ditch where Flynn now goes though to SPID. At 16 years old, I would bike that way to get to work at my first job which was at a new cafeteria called Furr's. I quit after one week though because they refused to get me any help in the kitchen. There was a movie theater and I think a Godfather's Pizza next to Clicks Billiards. We watched Mary Poppins at that theater ( I was maybe 10 - 12 years old), and when the movie was over, we would go to Godfathers Pizza for Dinner. We had a Coke Pitcher that they would fill up for us at Godfathers for free.

Oh and I remember a spanish phone number which was used as a tag line for a popular commercial but I cant remember what it was for. The phone number was:
" Ocho Ocho Ocho, Cinco Seis, Uno Uno"

Anyone remember what the commercial was? I keep racking my brain...

CCAgDad,

I think the Ice Cream Shoppe behind Channel 3 news was Swensen's. I think it was next to Gallaghers. God how I miss all these great eateries. (sigh- getting teary-eyed)

There was a Skaggs AlphaBeta at the corner of Everhart and SPID, across the street from Gallaghers. It was originally Skaggs Albertsons, but they broke up the business so it was Skaggs AlphaBeta for awhile then it became just Albertsons. I think its Academy now

1984Consol,

It was diffinately Swenson's. They had the thickest shakes ever!

Remember the cotton fields across SPID from the Sunrise Mall? My kids can't ever imagine anything but strip malls and resturants.

I forgot about Godfather's Pizza. It had the greatest sauce ever.

Ah yes, Aqua Thrill Way.

I think I had stuff stolen at Robstown games too.

Man were old!!!

How long do you want to ignore this user?
LOL yes we are)

How do I get some of the smileys people are using? I like the one laughing so hard he is crying and the one eating popcorn

Was Aqua Thrill Way on SPID? and what was Magic Isles?

I remember the fields where the fairfield inn and other hotels are. When we went back in 1995 we got lost between Everhart and Staples- used be nothing there across from the malls. And the malls are so close together now too. I think someone said along time ago that they were gonna make both malls into one maga-huge mall.

Godfathers pizza itself was thick- a real pie) (sigh)

Man these are some great replies- and bring back wonderful memories. Anyone have any more?Share stuff from your school days too)

I remember the NAMES Aqaua Thrill Way and Magic Isles but I dont remember the actual PLACES. I assume Aqua Thrill Way was a water park and I vaquely remember commercials for Magic Isles- I think it was something like Six Flags? Dont remember where either of them were...
racerfink
How long do you want to ignore this user?
They were both on SPID. Aqua Thrill-way was near Rodd Field Rd. I think a movie theater and an Applebee's are there now. Magic Isles was in the Bluff, right on the corner of SPID and Flour Bluff Dr. There's a kart place there now.

My grandparents both live on Stonegate Way, both my moms and dads. Kinda wierd how that whole thing worked out to get me here now that I think about it.

As much as I whine about coming back to Corpus, and with good reason. I still remember a bunch of awesome stuff from when I was a kid.

-Nothing beats that huge stripper, it was Legzzz wasn't it. Or something like that.

Anyways, I tried to do some Christmas shopping and Padre Staples the other day...absolutly disgusting.

I had a birthday party at Aqua Thrill Way right before it closed. Only two of the three slides were working and the pool they flowed into was green and slimy with algae. Good Times! We went to Charco's to eat burgers and play PAC-MAN and Centepede afterwards.

How could I forget about driving through the ritzier parts of town to look at Christmas lights. There was a house that had the whole house and yard covered with decorations. I think it was just off of Doddridge, between Alameda and Ocean Dr.
