I think we were the only Diboll team to ever lose to Huntington.

Tex_Ag_97, you're probably right. Unfortunately that is the only district game we have ever won in school history.

Yeah Matt, Jason Watson later told me that when the coach got a 1A team scheduled for a non-district game that season, he came running out of his office yelling, "We're gonna win one this year!"

slowlane, small 3A school about 10 miles south of Lufkin. Depending on the year (since the district gets reshuffled every few years) we are in a district with Diboll, Rusk, Crockett, and a few others. We also had Center in our district when I played as well.

Tex_Ag_97, yeah we had to do that alot!!! Actually the year we beat y'all was considered out best year ever, won 2 other non-district games that year 54-0 over 2A Hemphill and another 48-10 or something like that over 1A Evadale. So those along with the district win over Diboll pushed our grand total record to 3-7!!!

I actually ran into Joe Phipps a few years ago up here while he was at TCU. I remember playing both football and basketball against him and Charles Moses all through high school. Both are great guys.

Yeah, I haven't talked to Joe since highschool, but I kept up with Charles for a few years during college.

'92 was a crappy season for us. 0-10 after a playoff appearance in '91 (Navasota rolled us pretty good.) Since then I haven't really kept up with Diboll football that much, although I did make a homecoming game 3 or 4 years ago against, yep, Huntington. At one point, Diboll scored, kicked off, recovered the fumble on the return and scored again.

Later in the half, Diboll scores, kicks off, recovers another fumble on the return and runs it inside the 5 and scores on the next play.

It was the first time I have ever seen the mercy rule envoked in a football game (the game clock runs continuously with no time outs).

Do you know where Charles is now? I actually emailed him after finding him on classmates.com about 8 years ago but lost touch. Me and him used to guard each other in basketball and became pretty good friends from that.

Hey Seattle,

You should also be proud of your beloved franchise for ripping off Texas A&M's sacred 12th Man tradition, which the Aggies began in the 1920s. Texas A&M trademarked the name and probably would sue if it could prove your beloved franchise was marketing 12th Man merchandise. Counterfeit team, counterfeit tradition.

Do you two Overton guys remember playing Waskom in I think 1992 for your homecoming game and you kicking a last second field goal that hit the uprights and boucing in for you to win?

brennus, i DO remember that game....the guy's name that kicked it was dexter cary...he was also our star running back that year (gotta love 1-A football). he ran the ball the whole game, then laced up a kicking shoe and kicked (what i remember to be) a 40+ yard field goal, and like you said, it hit the upright, shot straight up in the air maybe 15-20 feet, then BARELY dropped over the other side.

one of the more awesome finishes to a game i've ever seen!
