Yea I think that's where I got my last pair. I think I'll try Wal-Mart next since it's a ton easier to get in of and out of.

My Par 3 work helped a ton on the front 9. I made a putt or two from 10+ feet plus some nice up and downs. Totally lost it on the back side. Some day.

How many times a week do you play golf? I play, and really don't have many people that like to play golf and play regularly. Any room for another in your group?

Matt, where do you play?

I'm in the same situation except I'm jobless right now and can hardly afford to go to the driving range much less the green's fees.

Matt, will you be going to San Antonio June 6 and 7?

Hmm. Strange. You play golf quite often at MCC? You have to be in the produce business if you mention San Antonio and June 6-7.

I play all over the Valley. I have a buddy that plays often at Cimarron, so I join him 1-2 times a month. I also play at Palmview (really like that course, and it is tough from the back tees, Los Lagos, Tierra Santa).

If anyone is needing another avid golfer in their group on the weekends or whatever, lets play.
GurmTsu

Yes...and yes.
Palmview is a very good course. Los Lagos during the summer sometimes, when it is in good shape, is fun. too.
See you in SA...probably before that!

Haven't played there in about 2 or 3 years. If you've never played there it's certainly worth a trip. I would put it in the top 6 in the valley easily.

My Top 6 in no order.... let's see.... I'm probably leaving something out.

South Padre
Tierra Santa
Los Lagos
McAllen Country Club
Palm View
Cimarron

I've only played Harlingen courses maybe twice in my life and it's been too long ago to rate them. I also really like River Bend in Brownsville. Seven Oaks in Mission is a good place to play as well (and cheap) but it's sometimes not kept up very well.

Ah, lately once every 2 weeks or so. I would like to play at least once a week if I ever get my driver lined out. Took a lesson a couple of days ago at Los Lagos and it helped a ton.

Our regular group is full but it would be fun to put together a TexAgs group sometime this summer.

has anyone played Tierra Santa, Treasure Hills, or the Island course lately? if so, are the fairways and greens in good shape? i don't feel like playing HCC more than once this weekend, so i am trying to decide what other course(s) to play? i haven't been down since Christmas, so i have no idea how the courses are playing.

gurm,

if your simplicity comment was directed at me, it's not relevant as i never said I "loved" valley courses. no biggie, though. personally, i'd rather have to work hard to break 70 on tough courses than shoot an easy 67-69 every other round on easier courses like Tierra Santa and Treasure Hills. my game is a bit rusty after a month layoff due to finals, so i think Tierra Santa might be a slump-buster. i have to avenge the round i had there over the X-Mas break.... i hit 17 greens (including 6 eagle putts; 3 of which were inside 15 feet), had 40 putts, and effectively turned 61 into 71. it was the best ball-striking round of my life, as well as the worst putting round of my life. it's not like i had long birdie putts either; my longest one was about 20 feet. oh, i forgot to disclaim that i didn't play the tips (played the 6600 tees instead) because i played with my old man. i rebounded and shot a career-best 62 at Plum Creek in Kyle- my 1st round as a married man- in February. (that broke the course record by 3, and it was pretty sweet as some Aggie-hating SWT golfers could not believe an Aggie set the record on their home course.)

It was aimed at your coment about "missing the simplicity of Valley courses".
I absolutely agree that the valley has some of the easiest courses in Texas. That is due to the flat land and the lack of rain. But to say you miss that? I don't buy it. If you are as good as you say you are and play regularly on tough courses in San Antonio, Houston, Dallas or, Austin, and then you say you miss playing on Valley courses, there is something wrong with you. I would gladly give up every course in the Valley to play the tougher, longer, more undulating courses of the hill country or the Metroplex!

Get 'em! When I play courses outside of the Rio Grande Valley, I miss the 50 yard roll out on the end of my drives.

PA02, thanks for talking down to all of the people here who play these short, 6600 yard courses in the Valley. If you are used to playing longer courses, say 7000 yards, you should not be on here bragging about having 6 eagle putts form the "short" tees. The fact that you are bragging about it says that you are proud of it. I would also be proud of that round but I wouldn't brag about it unless it was from the tips.

gurm,
you gotta be kidding me. you are off on a number of points. i am scratching my head in curiosity, wondering how you jumped to some of your conclusions. i guess you don't know the meaning of "sometimes" from my initial post. as in, SOME of the time i miss being able to get the extra roll that matt referred to, as well as not hit into raised greens surrounded by water and steep bunkers every hole. there is nothing "wrong" with me; one would think it's human nature to occasionally play an easy course and dominate. just because i think valley courses are easy does not mean i think that they are bad. i didn't mean to put you on the defensive.

i don't think you understood my disclaimer about playing the 6600 yard tees at Tierra Santa. it was to give an accurate description of what distance i played from; not to say valley courses are short. the backs from TS are over 7000, so it can make for a long course.

i totally disagree with your statement that i should not be prouf of having 6 eagle putts from 6600 yard tees. i guess it is okay for you to discuss your rounds on here, but it's only bragging for me. also, thanks for telling me what i should and should not do or feel in respect to my golf game. i am damn proud of the way i hit the ball that day. i laughed at your comment that you'd only be proud of that round from the tips. give me a break. i think there is a distinction that should be made: i hit the ball phenomenally and am proud of that, but my score was very much average by my standards. i will agree that 71 at TS is no big deal (i averaged 69.1 there the 2 summers i came home in college; played about 2 times weekly there), but to have 6 eagle putts is impressive any way you slice it. i play the middle tees every once in a while with my father-in-law, and there is not much of a difference in my score. it just means that i hit 2-iron off half the holes and have a gap wedge in, rather than a 56 or 60. seriously, there's no reason to argue or for you to tell me what i should "brag" about. golf is a great game, and i love it no matter where i play.

back to one of my original questions... has anyone played Tierra Santa, Treasure Hills, or the Island course lately?

"I would also be proud of that round but I wouldn't brag about it unless it was from the tips."

That is what I said...
...but, you are probably right. I would brag about it.

Also, there is no doubt that you are a good golfer with scores like that. Sounds like you are scratch or better, in the Valley.

I have not played TS or SPI since last summer. They were both in pretty good shape then. I have not played TH in several years. I have no idea what shape it's in but I really like the layout there.
