KTXS has had some good weather guys in my lifetime. Jerry Eckhart was the first one I remember, I believe he was the first actual meteorologist to be hired by an Abilene TV station. That was back in the day with the blue and white radar that had the county boundaries and nothing else. Then along came Steve Kersh, who is an Aggie I believe, and he brought the fancy new "Live Doppler 12" with him. He left to go to D-FW I think, but he's in Amarillo now. Another Aggie, George Flickinger, replaced him. Flickinger had the most interesting choice of ties that I've ever seen, but he was a darned good meteorologist and became my favorite one of all time. Nate Johnson (also an Aggie) followed Flickinger, I'm not sure where he left for. Damon Lane is the guy now, not sure if he's an Aggie or not. He's pretty solid, I suppose, but he's no Flickinger.
Flickinger and Nate have been known to post on Texags, particularly this West Texas board, on occasion.
KTAB's Bill Chaney was quite popular until he got caught messing around with little boys. My dad was on the grand jury that indicted him, and wasn't very happy when he came walking down the stairs of the Jones County Courthouse and every tv camera from Abilene was pointed at his face.
KTAB has had several guys who were just "weathermen", not meteorologists. Sam Nichols is probably my favorite KTAB personality, and he was a darned good girls' basketball coach too. Randy Turner was always pretty solid. I was a fan of Rex Andrew forever, whether he was doing weather or news or doing his thing as justice of the peace. I can't remember the new guy's name, Dan something or other, but he's kind of goofy on camera. Marcy Novak, KTAB's weekend meteorologist, is an Aggie class of 2006.
