Dean Hawkins, dean of Ag/Natural Sciences at WT passed away last night after a 3 year battle with brain cancer.

Dean was an all around great guy, and wonderful leader for the Texas A&M System school in Canyon. He died on the same day a major gift was announced to name the new Ag Science building on campus, which is going to put WT's ag program up there with A&M's in terms of prestige.

Chancellor Sharp was on campus for the announcement of the gift.

Dean has a daughter that is a student at A&M.

His loss is a loss for the Texas Panhandle, and for the Texas A&M System.

May he rest in peace.

I worked with Dean from USDA-ARS at Bushland until I retired in 2013. He truly was a great friend & guy!
