My childhood memories of Luby's (not to mention airport lounges) is filled with the ineffective "smoking section".
Those younger than c/o 2007 probably don't have a frame of reference for what going out was like before the smoking ordinance was in effect. You'd go to a bar and the ceiling stained brown and was obscured by a dense cloud. The next day, your clothes would reek of cig smoke even if you were only out a short time and didn't take a drag. It's a different world.

Your friend is an idiot. Nothing they serve is worth a 3 hour wait.

You could smoke in the bar at the Mason Jar up until they closed in 2016 since they weren't in COH.

Gatlins is objectively better food.
But the time warp of Barbeque Inn was why one went.

Gatlin's is some of the worst BBQ I have ever eaten in my life.

And somehow they make you wait 45 minutes for it.....after you order.
But I think they're talking about Gatlins Fins & Feather, not Gatlings BBQ

I've never tried it only because everyone I've ever talked to that had told me it was garbage and nowhere near worth the wait.
But I have heard the opposite about Gaitlin's Fins and Feathers

Didn't realize it was a completely different restaurant (I thought it was a menu item).
Oops.

If you had the BBQ, I do not blame you. If you had the fried chicken, lord have mercy on your soul.

Simos Diner is one of the few remaining "time machines" left in that general area. It's primarily breakfast, and cafeteria style lunch....but one of the days (can't remember which) they do Chicken N Dumplings and I believe you have to call to place an order. They are so good it'll make you feel guilty.![]()

Dinner Bell Cafeteria on Lawndale didn't get this publicity when it closed a couple years ago. Started in 1952.
