I may have to check it out before it's gone. What I want to know is how does Gabby's stay in business...its serviceable at best.

I imagine it's going to be an absolute cluster f trying to get in there before Saturday.

As for Gabby's I wonder the same thing often but I think they do quite a bit of lunch business and catering. At least enough to keep them open.

Even further into the hood is Coarse, which I found to be a very good meal, run by a very nice family.

Back when we were living in the area a decade or so ago, it was our fav fried chicken joint in town. Someone told us it was the best in town but to not even mess with their mediocre BBQ and so we stuck to that...never once tried the BBQ. It was also a nostalgic vibe that you do not get at many places anymore.

I think Harris County Flood Control owns all that land, but I could be mistaken.

Handled an apartment fire claim ages ago near there. That was always lunch.

Never ate there, but is this this place with the supposedly good fried shrimp?

Only made it there once, but was a fan of the chicken fried steak you could cut with a fork.

And the sassy waitress was entertaining.

Place was a time warp. Almost all of these places are gone now.

Anyone remember Tripe A Diner off Ariline and their chicken dumplings?

One of those places I'd drive by once a year and say to my self I need to go there.
Then immediately forget about.

Honestly Gaby's is meh, but alright for generic bbq catering at a decent price.

A transplant who's likely in Katy, at that.

Any reason given?

My family was one of those whom had been going for four generations

Sad day.

Retiring. They tried once before and sold out only for it to go downhill under new management and had to buy it back to keep it going.

It's one of the hardest industries out there. The family is there pretty much every day. It's sad, but long deserved.

I hope it's replaced by a Cajun/Pho Fusion place.

Sad day for the city.
Best fried chicken, and CFC/CFS in Houston.
This place is an institution.
Walking into this place feels like stepping into a time machine.
It's looked exactly the same for decades.

My childhood memories of Luby's (not to mention airport lounges) is filled with the ineffective "smoking section".

Those younger than c/o 2007 probably don't have a frame of reference for what going out was like before the smoking ordinance was in effect. You'd go to a bar and the ceiling stained brown and was obscured by a dense cloud. The next day, your clothes would reek of cig smoke even if you were only out a short time and didn't take a drag. It's a different world.

Yep. Going out to the club and House of Pies afterward meant taking a shower and doing laundry as soon as you got home to get the stench off.

You could smoke in the bar at the Mason Jar up until they closed in 2016 since they weren't in COH.

The seafood at BBQ Inn is what kept us coming back.

The fried shrimp and the stuffed soft shell crab were as good as it gets.
