Grew up just outside Houston my whole childhood and havent been back in years. My oldest was playing softball so we stayed a couple of days for a tournament

Got to introduce my kids to what a lack of zoning laws look like.

Driving down a street and it's residence, residence, industrial business, commercial business, small private airport, house, large neighborhood, huge distribution centers.

Great food.

Humidity. I mean real humidity.

And of course, drivers who challenge both your patience and driving skills.

Your softball aged daughter was interested in zoning laws?

Not at all. I never said interested. They just made comments on the randomness of stuff.

I think most of us are from deed restricted communities where the "total lack of zoning" doesn't affect us that much, but it is eye opening when I drive through a neighborhood where the owner of the industrial site has a nice big house right next door. You wouldn't see them from the freeway, though.

This place is awful, but we all have family here tying us down from leaving for greener pastures. I think there is a certain level of camaraderie when a bunch of people have to endure the same borderline unlivable, hot, humid, mosquito and Altima level infested hellhole together. I think that's why people are so nice/down to earth here...we all have to endure this sh** together.

One hunnit. Anyone who flees to a place that is actually pleasant is permanently blackballed. Can't believe he would even show his face around here.

I lived there 55 years and grew to dislike it. Maybe when you mature you'll see it differently.

Maybe it's just nostalgia but pre-Katrician Houston was a much, much different place.

Nothing we can do about the weather and mosquitoes but there's overall a vibe to the city that I love.

Yeah with the way this thread is going, I'm not going to reveal too many more details of my childhood. Didn't mean to hit a nerve. Didn't really say anything bad in my op but obviously wasn't received well.

1. Not complaining. Loved growing up in Houston and its uniqueness. And I do miss it at times. This thread was supposed to be nostalgic. And I guess with the hostile responses, it still is.

2. I said "airport", you think I was talking about where there used to be two Starbucks across the street from each other off Shepard and west gray? Off course it wasn't inside the loop. I don't even think they're airports inside the beltway anymore.
