Great news for Houston. Looks like Apple plans to build a 250k sq ft facility in Houston that will create thousands of jobs locally. Seems like Houston is slowly getting more and more tech related jobs.

Any idea where this facility will be built?

think you missed a zero on that square footage....otherwise those thousands of people are going to be quite cramped.

I hope they contribute a lot of $$$ to the grid to make sure we don't have power supply issues.

But I doubt it. They'll get an exception and pay pennies on the dollar for their electricity, and Centerpoint will pass on the extra cost to the residents.

They'll probably install a 138k line to the facility, designed and built to withstand hurricanes, then drop the voltage to what they need on site.

While neglecting to do ANY maintenance on residential lines like they have been.

Those in the know in west Katy and Brookshire think it is going to be in the Woods road area in those massive buildings in the area.

I'd be shocked if it didn't have a dedicated generation facility built with it.

Why? If the reported location is accurate, they will be less than a mile from NRG's generating station at 249/BW8.

I would be a little surprised if they built out the infrastructure to take power from that plant directly. That is both expensive and I don't think that plant is one of the cheaper ones.

They will likely build a windfarm in west texas. There is a 0 percent chance apple builds a Nat gas power plant. Or enters into a PPA with a company that will build one.

I vote for renaming the once desirable(ish) nearby residential and commercial area to Tandoorbrook. It is ripe for a cultural gentrification.

Should be entertaining to watch them mingle with the residents along the east end of 1960 between 249 and I-45.

I've heard it'll actually be a Foxconn facility. They actually already have several sites along 249/8. Not sure if true but heard this from a source who competes with Foxconn and is in the server business

The jobs wont be long lived. Post construction it will be 1/10 or less the number required to build and configure the thing. The WSJ just had an article about this today on this very topic.

Construction jobs don't last past project completion? I hope the guys in construction find out about this.

OP said thousands of jobs. There won't be thousands of jobs. That's my only point.

Good jobs though for those that land them.

Not an IT guy but pretty sure a data center is not the same as a manufacturing facility.

True but the Foxconns of the world do oftentimes have replicas of their clients' (hyperscalers) data centers on-site where they test out new manufacturing processes and technologies (liquid cooling, solder cold plate, etc)
