Toyota doesn't feel terribly outdated, even now I don't feel like it's aged poorly. Same with the ballpark, except the restrooms. NRG was doomed from the start with the novelty grass, and a roof they open once every 5 years. If they didn't bother with the cost associated with those boondoggles, maybe they'd have had a better looking stadium.
The should open it for rodeo as they're at night in March. Wonder how the acoustics are with it open.

Would love a stadium over in EaDo like Shell and Daikin. So much easier to get into and out of than NRG.
Not saying you're wrong but would it remain easy to get in and out? A new NFL stadium would seat close to double of what the Astros ballpark does when its sold out. Granted with I-45 being rerouted to run next to a rebuilt 59 no one knows what the traffic in that area will be like until the project is done.

With downtown/eado, you've got good access multiple directions via 59, I10, 45 and 288. It would make the most sense.

Seems to me that the easiest and quickest thing is for Cal to pay for upgrades in exchange for some credits/privileges from the county, but the Texans are already getting to play there for free.

Rodeo should have always stayed in the Astrodome where they can permanently bask in the **** smell they created.
Only one problem though - where are you going to put it exactly? Every square foot of land over there is used. The new interstate system will chew up a bunch of land to the east of the existing highway (IIRC to Hutchins street). So you are looking at an area from roughly Hutchins on the west to around Live Oak on the east, assume it is across the street from the soccer stadium so Walker on the north to maybe Leeland on the south.MAS444 said:

Not even Cal could afford to buy out enough area on the west side of the freeway to make space and the amount of legal fighting on the east side that would take place to ED or buy out anything would make the cost unbearable.
There are the railroad lines that would have to be accounted for east that limits how far you can go, which means that the only real place with enough room would be basically at the 45/59 intersection.
Not nearly enough existing parking either, unless you think the downtown garages are the answer (they aren't).
It would basically take one of the government bodies declaring eminent domain and the Texans forking over money to buy out the land owners. I see some plots of land that could become a stadium site just south of the soccer stadium. But like you said, that only accounts for the stadium itself and not the large amount of parking it will require. The Astros got away with it because enough garages and lots are in downtown proper. Unless the Texans build a bunch of garages and kill off their tailgate scene I dont see where you are going to get cars down there.

Houston and McNair may not have gotten a new NFL team and stadium without the Rodeo to chip in financially.
I thought the stadium was 100% funded by Harris County? I can see the rodeo putting political pressure on the county that a new stadium is very much needed and to support the NFL coming back but I was not aware of the rodeo putting any cash toward it.

The Chiefs seem to have plenty of success with an old 70s concrete stadium.
The Texans aren't saying the need a new stadium because NRG is too old to win in. They just want more revenue and hope to find a local government willing to build them something that can do that.
Plus the Chiefs said the same thing about Arrowhead. Thats why they were threatening to move across the border to Kansas before their current home county agreed to $800 Million in stadium renovations for Arrowhead

At some point counties that are broke (and taxpayers stretched to the breaking point) have to stop funding investments for billoinaires.
I'm very happy that their net worth will increase from $9,000,000,000 to $11,500,000,000 with the new revenue streams but would prefer that they bear the costs that will net them the benefit.

This is no different than the Spurs in SA. Wanted out of Hemisfair Arena, so they moved to the Alamodome. Granted, Alamodome sucks for basketball. But they got the new SBC Center after they tore Freeman Coliseum down. And already the SBC Center is no longer good enough for them. It'd be one thing if they were still any good, but Pop got too caught up in SJW politics and now the team sucks.

One thing I've noticed is no article or press release actually states a specific thing wrong with NRG Stadium. This is all a marketing tactic by the new president, it's clear his job is to talk down the current stadium to get a new one.
They basically pay nothing to use the stadium yet have the audacity to complain about it and want broke tax payers to give them a new toy so they can continue to live their Tommy Boy life.
Plus, a new stadium would still have all the same maintenance cost of the current one so saying 30 years of maintenance cost is a justifiable reason for a new stadium is bogus. You would pay all the same costs plus another billion to build the thing.
