You know, now that I went out and checked, looks like all 3 are leaking above that round collar thing before I even put them on

Is this in any way going to be a repeat of 2021?

Not even close in duration. Will be a hard freeze Wednesday morning but not quite as low as the coldest of 21. We're really looking at a 24-36 hour event here

I've had good success with throwing some of those instant hand warmers in there with the wrapped spigots, put one in when I get up and one when I go to bed. No matter what I've done, my bfp for sprinklers cracks at the valve. This year I bought some plug in heat tracing off amazon a few months ago, guess we'll see how it does.
Best setup is a cutoff in the ground, open the bleed valves to drain and don't touch any ball valves on the stack. Closing a ball valve while there is water still in the pipe/valve traps water in the valve which freezes. and cracks the housing.

Highly unlikely to be a '21 repeat for a few reasons.

- ERCOT has been the bad guy, but they were completely unprepared for that event. The changes made since then may not be 100% foolproof, but we wouldn't have the same catastrophic feedback loops happening this time.
- temps will be much higher on a state-wide level. There are good odds that wherever the most snow/sleet falls will end up colder than Dallas for this event, and that's still keeping temps ~10 degrees higher than '21
- winter precip will be in a smaller portion of the state and be less impactful on a wide scale, mostly localized impacts

Stay off the roads if you can, enjoy the cold weather before the summer oven turns on

Once the city sees it they'll call and tell them to reverse course.

Can't afford the drop in water pressure after the dozens of water line breaks they'll inevitably have to

back-flow/vacuum preventer seems to be the problem on all 3 spigots. No time to tix those, but I assume not told difficult other than seating screw or whatever it is called is probably rusted shut.

Take them off or the others won't work. They'll also freeze because they hold water.

The head of the seating screw on one of my vacuum preventers broke off when I was trying to unseat it this morning. Any ideas wtf to do about that? Its not really in a position where I can drill it out either

I have a flight out of IAH at 1030 AM on Wednesday…any thoughts on whether I get out or not?

I'm thinking a bunch of cancelled flights on Tuesday will disrupt things for a day or two.

Not supposed to be back above freezing until around noon on Wednesday, and then we get a few hours for stuff to melt before it freezes again. Wondering if those few hours will be enough or just create an icy mess for Wednesday night into Thursday morning

If you are talking about the spigot, carefully drill it out. Super easy. The set screws are designed to break off to make it harder to remove.

Oops, didn't notice your comment on the positioning.

Best setup is to go to the hardware store and buy 3 PVC Unions. Shut the water off to the sprinklers then cut the entire assembly off. Install 2 of unions on the pipes coming out of the ground and the piece you've cutoff. Install them 180* opposite to each other. Use the 3rd to build a couple caps to close everything up. If there's any water in the pipes coming out of the ground you can cover them with a small trash can filled with leaves, sawdust, packing peanuts, etc.

I mean...the real decision point (in my opinon) is not whether to drip or not, but whether to turn the water off to the house at night or drip.

I turned it off in 2021, and dripped it last freeze.

Probably going to just drip it again this time. It's a pain to drain all the exterior faucets that I've already wrapped.

My parents live next to a house that was an actual *****house during Euri. And even without power, the place stayed open.

Most local mets are putting out closer to 3" totals so far today, could see that tick upward as the close range hi-res models come in. 8" would be pretty wild, but remember that does not mean 8" on the ground due to melting from residual ground warmth and such

Definitely think someone could see a thunder snow or thunder sleet band.
