I keep hoping I can figure out what a bollard is from context. Right now I'm leaning toward a large, menacing sea creature.
The big posts next to the concrete well pad are an example. Just a steel pipe sunk into the ground, concreted in place and filled with concrete.

Thanks. Do you mind if I call the one in the front Nessie, and the one in the back (Levi)athan?
94chem,
That, sir, was the greatest post in the history of TexAgs. I salute you. -- Dough

You can call them anything you want as long as you sand em down and repaint them when they start rusting again.

Haha

Spent too much time early in my career walking a field around with a Shoenstad looking for flush mounted wells.

It was always relief to see stickups.

One of my first sampling jobs was in a refinery. I spent 20 minutes looking for a flush mount, then I got operators involved and spent another 20 minutes with us all looking. Yeah, my front tire was parked on top of it. Oops.

I could see it where an older driver had a medical episode of some kind or got confused and slammed on the gas because that vehicle was moving. And there's zero chance anybody got out of that vehicle alive. There's nothing left of them but ashes.

I met a gentleman who drives around Houston getting video of storms, floods, etc. He goes by "stormchaserhtx" on Instagram. He gets paid by Ch13 to submit his videos, but I don't know how much.

They will try to get permission to show it for free first. If it's unique enough and in demand enough you can negotiate a price.

Yeah, in the bend. Sad looking horses on too small a plot. And a classmate riding a ten speed with empty milk jugs over and over to fill with water from the nearest hose she could find or from the little convenience store faucet up at 288 and Wilson, next to the "He's Not Here Lounge".
I know, was making a comment that I didn't realize there were any other parts of the county that didn't have running water.

And if you know where I'm talking abou ton 400, you know why.

Oh, I know why.

I bet there are some other parts without running water. Ever been to Holiday Lakes? Or some parts outside of Bailey's Prairie or Four Forks?

Call me heartless, but if it's true this was an elderly person this just ticks me off to no end. The amount of damage they cause as drivers because they get confused or have slow reflexes is infuriating. Why they don't MANDATE actual in-person driving tests over a certain age to renew your license is beyond me.

My dad is 74 and I think he's an awful driver. I'm not worried about his mental state per se, but his reflexes are way too slow. And if he's suddenly in a split second reaction decision, I don't have faith he wouldn't make the situation worse. But dammed if you can convince him otherwise.

Thankfully he lives in a small town up north with very little traffic. But he does like to drive all the way from Michigan down to the Texas coast once per year (he's not allowed to fly bc of a health issue). And every time he does, I dread his stretches through DFW and Houston.

Not too many parts of the county I haven't been to. Hell, I hunt just outside of Holiday Lakes.

you could argue we should do it for everyone...there are some genuinely terrible drivers of all ages

No objection for me there. Make it a condition of license renewal every 10 years or something. As long as you can go to a certified business to do it and not have to go through the DPS office.

Sadly, I don't even have much confidence in even that. M son got his license earlier this year and all they had him do was basically parallel park and drive through a small subdivision. Seems ridiculously easy to pass. Probably still better than nothing I suppose.

I was doing a job up in Michigan that we started in February, drilling soil borings on a 100' grid across a property and occasionally installing wells. There was about 3' of snow on the ground, so it was very obvious where we had been by the wallowed out wheel ruts through the snow made by the rig, driller's supply truck, and the environmental truck driving down the grid lines from point to point.

After about a week of work and probably 40 borings and 4-5 wells, we had a visit from the Michigan DNR (now EGLE) since they were funding part of the work. The guy they sent out talked with us for a bit while watching the drillers work, then asked if we had installed any wells yet. I said yes and directed him to go look on the next grid line over. He walked around for about 20-30 minutes up and down a couple of the grid lines, then came back and asked again where the wells were. The only thing on the site that was not covered in snow were the tire ruts and the dark red stickup boxes that he had walked several circles around. I pointed to one, and he said "Oh, I had never seen an aboveground completion before, I was looking for flush mount pads."

I have a major objection to that, I don't want to have to deal with a freaking driving test to renew my license every 10 years. The bad drivers probably don't have licenses or care. It won't solve any driving safety issues, instead it will just add another hassle to your life.

Okay then. Perhaps go by driving record. If no accidents or tickets within xx time frame (point system for your license), you're exempt from having to retake the test. UNTIL you reach a certain age when you have to be tested due to decline in reflexes and cognition.

The recent news on social media talking about ET bankrupting Greenpeace USA can not have gone over well with the greenies, who are absolutely prone to doing dumb things for the sake of their environmental message. Just seems like too big of a coincidence to me.

If they were able to access the vehicle, they likely have the VIN and with it the owner's name and a pretty good idea of who the remains belong to. Initiating a criminal investigation may be something as simple as saying we are determining a cause of the impact via coroner examination (i.e. medical incident), or they could have found some social media activity from the owner of the vehicle or prior knowledge of the owner by the FBI that makes them suspect it was intentional (i.e. Greenpeace).
