Talk about interesting conversations with lineman.

Our street just got the first trucks so I went to chat with them. They are all out of Florida. I asked if they needed waters or anything and their response was.

"We can't accept anything. We had guys get poisoned with fentanyl from water. People have busted our mirrors on our trucks with crowbars and some of our guys were held at gunpoint. Houston is F'ing nuts and we can't wait to go home".

Of course when I asked where that happened, he really didn't know. Lot's of rumors circulating. Even among the lineman.

Wait until they hear about the razor blades in the Halloween candy and the LSD on the ATM deposit envelopes.
Right!

It's probably just unsubstantiated rumors.

But I have seen some messed up stuff happen to workers in commercial construction and O&G that can't be rationalized by the average person. All it takes is one crack head.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to **** with a crew you were on
Emotional overreactions happen all the time.

I have done nothing but post information in a normal discussion. I haven't posted anything hateful or obscene or broken TexAgs rules as others have done on this thread. I'm not trolling even though that seems to be the most used excuse. Your post is the best irony of the entire situation. But because I don't agree and have politely posted links to information and provided counter points, you think what you said is okay.

You aren't a victim dude. Stop trying so hard to be one.
Nothing on this thread deserves the BS mob mentality that took place either.

Non-responsive, unsurprisingly. Again, you are not a victim, and CP is absolutely not either, no matter what links or "facts" you post. They are a public corporation that makes plenty of money to deal with the "mob" that happens to also be their CUSTOMERS when they screw up, they don't need volunteer white knights on the internet.

Where are they putting the Anthrax these days?

Are women in Houston still handing out little gold coffins on the nightstand that say "welcome to the world of AIDS" inside?

The find your service area map is going to give realtors all sorts of ideas about what to call neighborhoods

For the love of all that is holy, would someone please help Centerpoint make a decent map? I cannot tell where my service area even is on that map! I think maybe at the very north tip of the pink, but none of the "roads" make sense (there actually aren't any roads north of what I think is 99 on that map) and there are no landmarks or road names. So it could be in the purple, too. I think the dividing line between the pink and purple ~might~ be Kuykendahl. But the scale seems way off.

My mother called from Austin earlier and heard this EXACT same story - complete with fentanyl and crowbars - from her hairdresser. She asked me if I'd seen anything like this in my neighborhood. (I assured her that my hood in Cypress was not overrun with crowbar-wielding fentanyl pushers handing out water). I'm sure there are real threats and linemen being treated badly but this is clearly the Facebook/TikTok rumor of the day.

If you don't want a company looking out for their bottom line, then you're going to have to make it a government entity and all that comes with that.
There's a happy medium between that and slashing things.

Come on.

You know the stats on what Centerpoint is spending on maintenance how how that compares with other electric utilities.

Troll.

I've seen some posted. I noticed they were always in per capita numbers instead of actual dollars or work performed. I also know there's a good chance it's apples to oranges regardless withoutan actual analysis of anything being compared. But it's a point of argument.

I also expect Centerpoint to use this outrage to their advantage and propose raising their rate to do what everyone is demanding. And then I expect people will fight against it just like before.
Raising rates to do what they're already paid to do after posting a $6B profit last year seems... like a recipe for revolt.

Let's at least talk about actual profit if that is going ti be the argument.

I imagine (guess) their yearly profit is + or - based on the realized expected storm damage an army of analysts believes is likely and built into their budget and then running averages it so that it's more about a 3 or 5 year period than just 1. The billion dollar loss in 2020 would have drastically changed things if not.

So what happens if another major storm hits Houston this year? Or another? My guess is their profit will be much less for this year because of the derecho and the hurricane. If we get another similar storm it will be negative (if not already).

Anybody look at the earnings reports to see what the big negative numbers really were about? Were they actual operating losses? Or "one time accounting charges" to cover things like big stock option awards and bonuses for the executives, or stock buy backs and that sort of thing?

I'm still a little skeptical of the harassment stories, other than some people maybe not being used to working in ghettos or around crackheads.

Seems like they may have been airing "preventative" complains to enhance the heroic linemen narrative in the social media wars.

Although judging from this board alone, they do have an inordinate number of people coming up to them asking questions and trying to interact with them.

Yall just leave the guys alone and let them work. Faster they get done there, faster they can get to the next block.

It also seems people think CP is responsible for every tree in houston. Just saw a post about someone *****ing about a tree crew hired by CP that was removing a tree that was in the lines but not the one leaning over their house….

Don't get me wrong, CP deserves the blame they're getting. But people could also take care of their own **** vs expecting someone else to do it for them….

Grizzy posted a video of someone taking a crowbar to the side mirror of a utility truck. So that one I believe. I've also heard and I think it was confirmed, of someone shooting a BB gun at lineman.

As for the fentanyl laced water....I can't find anyone who's been able to verify that.

But yes, Houston people are by and large idiots. So I wouldn't be surprised.

Not saying this to defend CP but they absolutely lost money. First, all those repairs aren't free. Second, with 2 million people without power those delivery fees per kWh they are no longer getting add up.

One guess who is making a killing off of natural gas?

G-Land. Neighbor told me one of the power lines caught fire Tuesday night (we had power at the time) when hfd sprayed the fire, the transformer popped.

Once our power was switched back on, my next door neighbor offered to give them some beer. They turned it down, but after a little more talk, he talked them into going to a bar to buy them some beer. My neighbor across the street had joined by that time.

The neighbors still aren't home. That's going to be one expensive tab.

I can guarantee that ALL of this happened.

Houston keeps acting like this and we may not have any linemen show up to help next time.

Yeah... If we had linemen getting dosed with fentanyl from random water bottles, it would be on the news everywhere.

There have been attacks and unhinged people for sure, bit to what actually extent? It sounds more like a game of telephone with multiple branches to create a bunch of incident rumors from the few events actually covered.
