Yep, from the people saying this was going to be a cat 3, absolutely. It was always on track to be a cat 1 and do cat 1 damage, and that's exactly what it did. Power outages, tree damage, and flooding are all to be expected from a cat 1. What I'm talking about were the people out there talking about this storm having potential to come in as a "major," doing "catastrophic" damage, and the like. This storm didn't do any of that.
The guy you responded to was calling it fear porn because it might intensify to a cat 1. Well it did, and it did damage. Seems like the news was using facts to keep people prepared, but I guess you'll never admit that.


Of course they won't. Yet they say we are influenced by the news.

Read his post again. His post says that people were talking about it becoming a Cat 1 AFTER landfall, which of course is silly and not what happened, so it would be an example of fear porn. And the poster was of course using his own post to make a satirical comment about fear porn in the first place.

I went on to make a larger point about the fear porn, and if you look above that post, I have other posts where I take issue with people saying it would become a cat 3. I always thought it would be a cat 1, but didn't think it would go above that.

Once again, it was a cat 1 that did cat 1 damage. Ever looked at what cat 1 damage is? Here's what the NHC says:

Very dangerous winds will produce some damage: Well-constructed frame homes could have damage to roof, shingles, vinyl siding and gutters. Large branches of trees will snap and shallowly rooted trees may be toppled. Extensive damage to power lines and poles likely will result in power outages that could last a few to several days.

Sound familiar? What people don't realize is that if this had been a cat 3, instead of being on here complaining about getting their power restored, they'd be looking for a place to stay because their entire roof blew off, or their walls collapsed from the pressure of the wind. A cat 3 is different by orders of magnitude from a cat 1. That's why it's important not to oversell these storms.

Power still out in the old part of Fairfield in Cypress (77433). Historically we keep power when others lose it and get it back quickly when it does go.

As many insurance commercials as we're obligated to watch, I'd like insurance companies to dedicate one staffer to watch the local news during these flood events and deny claims for gross negligence.

77406 - Richmond outside city limits - no power since 5:52 a.m. Otherwise lucky - downed leaves/branches and the pool looks like s**t and that's the extent of it.

I chatted with the other store owners around us. EZ's opened at 5. Permission opened at 4. I believe Onion Creek has been open since 1 or 2.

I've fixed my own before, I'll make no representations that I can fix anyone else's.

I got to chop up a few trees today with the chainsaw however. Not that it helps you and your sticky generator problem.
