That derecho had a silver lining in that it was a dress rehearsal for bigger storms (power outages/visibility of flood prone areas/need for generator maintenance/etc.).

I was planning on buying a generator after the post derecho rush calmed down. Well I never got one .... oops

Power loss is my concern. The derecho already showed that our grid isn't ready for a hurricane. Hopefully it cleared a lot of dead branches and trees out, but I'm expecting another extended stretch without power, this time in 98 degree heat. I will be happy to be proved wrong.

Yeah Richmond, Sugarland, Katy, Tomball, the woodlands and Conroe look to be in for a rough night and morning. Fortunately this storm is coming in quite a way south so by the time it hits Tomball and north it will be weakened. I don't expect widespread damage but there will be a somewhat narrow path where the eye and dirty side go that will have tree, limb, power, and roof problems after. I could see this taking a few days for power etc to get sorted out but I don't expect what we saw from Ike or Harvey.
