I know it's rare, but the risk is greater than zero.
There is actually a scenario (a likely one IMO) where that was literally the safest decision at the time it was made, and that the microscopic chance of a ME failure was better than being caught between a hurricane and nowhere to go depending on the path of the storm.
Safest place for a ship that size is at sea. Getting stuck in port would be worse. Carnival people do this for a living and probably know what they are doing. Highest risk factor would be an alphabet kiwi captain and thats probably not the case here because there's real money involved and they not on taxpayer dime.

It was Haiti that exposed them. They took a **** load of money for that (including mine) and did little with it. It exposed how incompetent and inefficient they were. Pretty big deal back then. I've never given to them again because of it. Maybe they've fixed what was broken since then but there are now so many other worthwhile charities that aren't as sclerotic as the Red Cross that they aren't worth considering anymore.
