He sucked on that one hit but Pressly's garbage outing set that whole thing up. But our utter lack of offensive production has doomed us worse than anything. Maddening.

pressly sucked, and he wasn't helped by diaz with his lazy non block of the pitch in the dirt.

hader strikes people out, and this season gave up a ton of runs and homers compared to his past seasons. feast or famine

Yeah, Hader has been less than stellar, and I'm only listening on the radio online stream as I'm at work, so I couldn't see the Diaz ole. Brutal on all fronts honestly.

Well F me in the goat ass - piss poor end to a frustrating season. I still blame the first week of this thread fuggery... but also alot of sh*tty hitting and god awful blown pitching.

With that, we say goodbye to dancing girl for 2024 ... and JV and Breggy

It clearly shows. So damn emotionless. Laid back. Ho hummm.

What Hinch started, Hinch might end… This might be it.
Sadly, it probably is. Especially if Bregman and Tuck aren't nailed down contractually. Really going to suck to see Bregman in a Yankees or Dodgers uniform instead of an Astros jersey.

Farts, now I'm bummed out.

Oh well, back to those exciting Pete Rose debates.

You guys think Pete knew what he was doing? I think he knew what he was doing.

Stros got us thru some really lean football years. Thanks for that.
This years team never came together. Injuries or whatever, they just never played like a team.

Blow it up, or run it back? I don't think it is time to blow it up yet. In theory, you should get some pitchers back.

I just want to raise a toast to Jetch and all my Tine Disatros homies. May the burglar bars on your house stay strong and your off season uneventful. See you in 2025.

What a dick kicker of a day and season. Could never get pitching, hitting, bullpen going at the same time. Not ready to blow this up, but the golden age of Astros baseball that we likely will never see again is fading into the sunset. Helluva decade!

Agree with the Adam Sandler phrase. Goat ass.

Hopefully cooler heads can talk to those up for contacts and leverage playing in the off-season vs just getting a paycheck.

The fact that we even made the playoffs after a **** show of a start and down 10 games in July is a shock in itself.

The dynasty is over. I had the best time the last 7-8 years. Went to a **** ton of playoffs games and witness us clinch the WS at home.

I've had a great time as well, it's been amazing. But I don't think it has to be over. We were top 6 or 7 team this year based on WAR. These three game series' are completely random and that's why it's good to avoid with a bye if possible.

We still play in a weak AL West and are stacked with starting pitching. We have above average bats but need to add some juice there. Having a healthy Tucker all year next year will help a lot.

I think we can be favorites to win division again. Just need to make the playoffs and see what happens.

Woke up with a pretty bummed household. It will be an empty October without Astros playoff baseball.

But I am optimistic about 2025. We've made the playoffs 8 straight years and 9 of the last 10. We've won the division 7 out of 8 years. We can keep this going.

Don't overreact due to two losses against a crazy hot Detroit team with Skubal and a great bullpen.

Let's keep everything in perspective.

Here is team WAR at end the season:
https://www.fangraphs.com/depthcharts.aspx?position=Team

1. Astros 54.0
2. Yankees 52.6
3. Phillies 52.4
4. Dodgers 51.9
5. Padres 50.1
...
12. Mariners 41.4
...
15. Rangers 39.7

Yes, I think we were a top 5 team this year and yes I think we would've beaten Cleveland and New York in a longer series. That's why this hurts.

But next year we'll have a great core of Altuve, Tucker, Yordan, Framber, Hunter, Blanco, Arrighetti plus some guys getting back from injury. We will be favorites to win the AL West.

We need to not screw around the first 6 weeks so that we can get a bye and avoid the crazy crapshoot of a 3 game series.

Always a little sour waking up after our run ending... but we all knew this wasn't going to be our year.

What this team has done the last 8 years is more than alot of franchises have done in their entire history.

Today feels similar to the day after the 2020 ALCS Game 7. I wanted more but can't shake the shocked feeling of where we got to.

Just winning the West was an amazing accomplishment. I know the Mariners gave it away but we also started winning when we had to.

The only difference here is I feel like we have some serious decisions to make with this roster. Our farm system isn't exactly loaded but we have some guys that are going to want more money than their production will be worth.

Tucker pooping the bed in last year's ALCS and this year's wild card is troubling. I want him long term but I'm also not sure for what he's going to want and if he's truly worth it.

Same with Bregman. Love the guy and want him to retire an Astro but don't think you can justify the money Boras will likely get. Especially if the Chapman deal is the baseline.

I know Altuve isn't going anywhere and I don't want him to. He's going into decline so he can't really be the guy to lead this team for much longer. He can do it in the clubhouse but we need another player who can be clutch at the plate, base path , and on the field.

I know we have Yordan but I'm talking about a guy that can do it on the field, bases, and plate.

I know for sure what I don't want to do - sign any non-Astro near or over 30 to a long term deal. Those deals RARELY work out. I don't think Crane will do it anymore but you never know.

I also know what I don't and do want. I don't want Jeff Bagwell involved in anymore player decisions. I do want Jeff Bagwell high on whatever, honking his wife's cans on the front row of the Diamond Club.

That's the easiest two steps to get us back to where we've been.

Tucker is Jeff Bagwell. In most years, you do not win the division without his bat in the lineup. But, he's not delivering enough in the postseason. We already have holes in the lineup. Trade him for what? You're also most likely not resigning him.

Tucker 64 games played. OPS .685
Bagwell 33 games played. OPS .685

Yeah Altuve is possibly the greatest Astro ever but declining.

Yordan is one of the best sluggers in baseball when healthy - but he gets hurt when the wind blows (and the word is he's never been in great shape, which could contribute to that).

I love Bregman but we can't do the kind of deal he's going to require.

Tucker has been great but awful in the playoffs and I'm not sure it makes sense to keep him.

Farm system depleted.

Bottom of the lineup has been pretty bad.

I'm not sure we're in all that great of shape moving forward. Although our starting pitching appears to be in really good shape.

Why aren't we resigning Tucker?

We have Altuve through 2029, Yordan through 2028. We don't have enough depth in the farm system to replace him IMO. I'd much rather overpay Tucker than overpay Bregman.

Breggy is proven clutch when it matters. if i have to pick one to overpay it's him.

I'd still take Tuck but I think its moot because we won't be able to afford Tuck.

He's 27 and will get a ridiculous contract from someone.

In fact I'd be open to shipping him to another team in the offseason or next season to help replenish farm system.

///

IMO the non-pitcher player value on Astros is (based on batting and defense):

Tier 1 (elite, easily top 10-20 in MLB if healthy):
- Yordan and Tuck

Tier 2 (top 50 in MLB):
- Altuve and Bregman

Tier 3 (top 100):
- Yainer and Pena

I think it's pretty critical to re-sign Bregman if Tucker is walking out the door.

We'd still have a very solid lineup for the next 5 years, and if you get a couple of farm studs for Tucker then maybe we can get reinforcements down the road.

I agree that if Tuck has to go, we need to trade him and get some AAAers back in Suger Land. The deal for Kikuchi still rubs me the wrong way even though his stats improved once he got here - very Draytonish to raid the farm for a single arm.

Unpopular opinion time:

We've let a lot of big time free agents walk without getting anything in return.

Unpopular Opinion #1:
If the Astros are just going to let Framber and Tucker walk then I would deal each in the offseason or next season for peak value and a prospect haul.

Unpopular Opinion #2:
On the pitching side if you are going to lose Framber then I would re-sign Kikuchi to a 3 year deal and sign JV to a one year deal of base $6-8M loaded with incentives on top.

That would give you a rotation of Hunter, Kikuchi, Blanco, Arrighetti with #5 between JV and others.

That course of action accomplishes several things:

1. Gives you a team that will be favored to win AL West next year
2. Gives you a sustainable financial situation (signing Framber and/or Tucker back us into a corner)
3. Keeps clubhouse culture with key leaders who help younger guys (Altuve, JV, Bregman)
4. Transforms the farm system overnight where we'll have a lot of exciting high impact players to watch
