Abreu was always going to get a chance to come back. Having a set hard deadline is probably the only reason he agreed to the assignment in the first place.

You're right. But at the end of the day abreu and his agent had all the power in the situation. It's extremely rare for a reason. They could have simply said he'll agree to it but only if the max time is 30 days or we won't do it. Only options then would be agree to that, cut him, or leave him on the team.

Now, you're likely right you could've brought him back earlier against the Angels and A's. But he was just getting back to AA game time then.

Once back, Espada has shown they'll get immediate time in his short tenure. I mean he had solid substitutes for Chas but still started him his first game back also.

That all makes sense, but still hate the timing of his return with Mariners series.

These games are on a knifes edge and could go either way.

A four game sweep puts you 1 game below .500 and probably first place in West.

Getting swept drops you to 9 games below .500 and buried in standings.

It's just too critical of a series to be experimenting with Abreu and seeing if he "has his swing back".

Considering he hit a smoking .241 in the minors including being hitless in AAA before being recalled, it makes absolutely no sense.

Fouled a hard one directly off his right shin above the ankle guard. Impacted him enough that he had to leave the game in the middle of an at-bat (very rare for Tuck to leave a game due to injury as he plays through most things) after trying to jog back to the plate from on deck circle. He took one step and turned toward the dugout. He was down for several minutes with the trainer and Espada at home plate. Stated in post-game that xrays did not not show any breaks or fractures. He's listed as day-to-day at the moment.

What's the delay? Something in the Astros dugout.
