I've loved the way the Astros are navigating the transition to a sustainable financial position. They should now have the ability to field a good team for a while and are a solid tier 2 team (below tier 1 of Dodgers and Mets). Even without Tucker the WS odds are #6 on ESPNBet and #7 on Draftkings.

Stros are clear favorites in the AL West right now and have a good track to get a top 2 seed and a bye; that's why I think it's pretty critical to re-sign Bregman and play Parades at 1B. If Bregman walks then things are much tighter in the West.

Having said that, I think the Astros offer to Bregman is more than fair. But it does look like Boras might be able to pry a larger deal from the Mets, Red Sox, or someone else.

His decline has begun on the offensive side, so it's a deal that could look really bad in 2-3 years for one of those teams.

Offensive WAR:
2022 - 5.1
2023 - 4.3
2024 - 3.5

OPS+:
2022 - 136
2023 - 122
2024 - 118

He is clearly declining relative to the league, and that's even with the added motivation of a contract year. If he were a free agent from another team there's no way I'd want the Astros to touch him.

But given his contributions and the fact that the Astros can compete right now I hope they can find a way to get him back.

i'm not counting bregman out yet. they can't be dumb enough to trade tucker without being confident that deal can be done. but, this is boras so it does make me nervous.

Is it time for the 2025 version of this?

We got 2025 threads for weather, crime, and Rodeo but nothing for the Disastros.

Everyone should be celebrating the Pressly trade based on past feelings about him on here.

Plus, we got Bregman Watch, new infield pieces, and a dumpster fire of an outfield.

Who's gonna do the deed???

Bregman officially gone to the Red Sox for 3/120. Pretty shocked Boras pulled off $40 million a year for 3 years.

I can't wait for the Red Sox fans to rationalize cheering for him.

Have to imagine most Astros fans moved on already.

He really kinda sucked for the past couple years, with a few flashes of brilliance. Maybe lingering health issues, but he has been bad more than good lately.

I think it's probably for the best that he moved on. I realize it's all about the money, but the situation was just a bit stale. Time to reset with some new blood.

The good part is Crane and Co can't be blamed for him not coming back. They made a more than fair offer.

What I find most interesting is his biggest attribute seems to be his clubhouse presence. You heard that time and time again. It includes him working with pitchers.

The other guy you heard that about was Maldy. And it became obvious his clubhouse presence couldn't overcome his play on the field and at the plate.

I'm sure Bregman is salivating over 81 games at Fenway. If I'm opposing pitcher I'm never purposefully giving him anything inside.

Good luck to him. He was a key part of an amazing Astros run.

The real key is wearing 27 and still in an Astros uniform. The team mattered more than money to him.

I wanted him back initially but his actions over the last couple of months certainly soured me on him. Even with Altuve saying he'd change positions to keep him, he still didn't want to stay.

He's no longer an Astro, but a beantown a-hole that I'll root against. Management tried. He snubbed us.

it's a job man. You have to look out for yourself.

I get that totally.

I'm still naive enough, even in my old age, to think that after having MILLIONS already in the bank, a person would like to truly leave a legacy and allow his family to stay rooted in what at least seems to be a very opostive envirnment. And it's not like he was going to make chump change her e with no state income tax.

I get it. Just disappointing, like Corea and Springer.

You only pay income tax on home games. Still less tax playing in Texas for over half of your games than paying 9% income tax (rate for those making over $1 Million) for games played in Massachusetts. Granted the Astros play a lot of games in California where its taxed at 12.3%.

So after state income tax he's making $36 Million per season in Boston versus $26 Million in Houston. Yes that is only for 3 years so he is still betting on himself but do ya really blame him? I'm not sure if his wife and kid(s) move up to be with him or she stays to be near her family here in the Houston area. Thats a tough choice for sure but an extra $10 Million per year would get me thinking.

bregmans legacy is the 2x world series we won with him. plus walking off maybe one of the most legendary playoff games ever (2017 game 5)

Currently 6th best world series odds on Draftkings and 7th on Fanduel.

2nd best odds in AL after the Yankees.

Not bad after losing Tucker and Bregman in the offseason. And we should have a lot more free agent money after this season to improve OF/lineup.

Thinking about the AL, its pretty much the Yankees and everyone else and the Yankees aren't extremely better than us. In our own division I dont see any of the other teams being clearly better than us. No one in the Central scares me. And in the East, maybe the Orioles are right behind us and I assume 3rd favorite to win. They might be better than us but since they have to play the Yankees more it puts their odds lower

Yeah I think this sums it up perfectly.

The new normal for Astros will be a target of 90 wins (not 100) and attempting to win division and get a top 2 seed (not running away with the best record in the MLB).

We've been spoiled so that feels pretty mediocre but a lot of other fanbases would still kill for that.

What do you think? I was watching the news....can't remember which one yesterday and they interviewed McCullers....said he is feeling great and had got up to 86mph off the mound.

Is he really back?

I'm just here to laugh at the Sox now that half the team has come out and said "3B is Devers position".
