What's funny to me about these posts is the past couple weeks have been bashing the weather people for under hyping storms....

Now we're back to bashing them for being the first to report and overhype.....

Maybe.......they're just wrong. They aren't overhyping on purpose for clicks, they've just been wrong for whatever reasons.

The common theme is they are not correct.

Yall doing any prep work or putting yard stuff away?

The prospect of some light manual labor this afternoon has been raised, and I need to reassure myself that it's unnecessary.
No and no. Now whether you should follow that lead or not, I don't know. I did mow the lawn the other day in anticipation of this. As may be the case in your 'hood, everyone's heavy trash and tree limbs have been sitting on the curb for a week BECAUSE THIS ****ING CITY CAN'T GET ITS TRASH COLLECTION SCHEDULE CORRECT...but I digress...however, I'm curious to see what kind of a mess that makes tomorrow.

Good thing it's Juneteenth and my office is closed. I get to avoid all of the "it's raining really bad, can I work from home" texts.

OF course. Had to jam everything into contractor bags today, because those mother****ing no-respect-having 3rd world ****hole scrap metal scavengers keep sifting thru the pile and leaving the **** they don't want strewn out in the street. It's been sitting out there a week Chupe, the metal is gone. The early political asylum seeker gets the worm.

Where's that guy who said this was going to soak the ground, cause trees to fall, and create widespread power outages?

Random question…..when did the news start calling tropical depressions, tropical cyclones? That's a new one for me as I've heard the term "tropical cyclone" used in other parts of the world.

Cyclone sounds scarier and fits the mainstream media bias around climate change/ warming.

They were dieing to call this something and because it wasn't even a tropical depression they just started calling it "potential tropical cyclone 1". It's no different than the weather channel naming cold fronts. All for clicks.

If you haven't heard the term PTC before then you haven't really been following hurricane season since 2017.

It's was created for systems that have a high probability of formation and are within 48 hours of landfall. Before the PTC designation, the NHC couldn't officially post advisories and warnings and that was problematic for storms that form close to land, especially if the conditions were good for rapid intensification.

Do we really need a wall of text written from a NHC typewriter to know that a storm may form?

Do you as a person? Probablynot. But lots of corporate rules do need the warning posted to justify business alterations to effectively prepare for storms, especially when the primary decision makers are not in hurricane zones.

No, a tropical depression is, by definition, a tropical cyclone. A PTC is only a system that may become a tropical cyclone in the future.
