There will be: the customers will drop them and they'll go out of business.

But I don't think they're going to take some consequential or uncapped liability in exchange for making $5 or $10k per month (or whatever they are charging).

I'm not involved in all that discussion, but I know there is definitely a fair amount of back and forth with the providers. What is so absurd now is that we are submitting our wx observations now to help make their models better when their models used to be pretty damned good. Something shifted dramatically and it sucks.

Reality is not every product and service are the same. Some aren't ever going to have 100% accuracy and you'll never have that guarantee. You're choosing who you pay for based on their track record.

As frustrating as inaccurate forecasts can be, isn't this just a case of buyer beware.

If you choose to subscribe to a service that doesn't perform, find another that provides better service. May not apply here, if all services are based on a flawed model, but you still have a choice.

Do various forecasting services really vary all that much? I figured they all just took NOAA data and provided their own narrative interpretations. But I've never looked into it.

Who's the most reliant on accurate weather forecasts?

I can think of:

1) Energy companies and related traders
2) Maritime and offshore companies
3) Airlines

Would be curious what's going on with each of those as they have serious amounts of cash tied to accurate weather forecasting.

They aren't selling ads for local car dealerships, plumbing, HVAC, and generators.

I had no idea there was bad weather out there tonight as we got nothing on the westside. Had some thunder rumbles much earlier in the day, but nothing ever materialized. What part of town are you in?

Oak forest. Nothing really severe but way more rain than forecasted. Think space city said some spots could see 1/2". We got over 2".

Timbergrove got about 2.5".

I have a buddy in upper Kirby and they had lots of street flooding, they got about 3".

I'm tired of all the "experts" and their models and forecasts. Two weeks out doesn't mean ***** Get back to us when it's a week or less away.
