Ground zero when some of the worst of Thursday's storm rolled in. Around the 2:20 mark this dude had his rear window of his car blown clean off.

Scary moment as those 2 people get out of the SUV on the right and fall and the other car gets blown at them.

Of course it's man-made climate change to this guy. To a hammer, everything looks like a nail.
Quote:

"This was a rare but not unprecedented storm," said Matt Lanza, a Houston-based meteorologist and managing editor of the website Space City Weather. "But you do have to add that it does tend to fit the general theory and blueprint of climate change."

...
To Lanza's surprise, however, the storms did not weaken as they moved toward Houston. Instead, they intensified.

"Typically, (storms) blow up and then weaken after a little bit, but it just kept going and going and going and getting stronger," Lanza said. "That kind of wind is not normal here. Nothing about that is typical."

Where in that did you read man made climate change?

Climate change is fact. What the cause is and the solution to is up for debate. Lanza mentions it a bunch, but I don't see him pointing the finger at us and being all Al Gore. Hell, he is sponsored by Reliant. Not goaltending for him, but maybe some of you are just triggered by the term global warming.
I am just conditioned to there being a political angle or motive pretty much any time it is ever brought up. Why even bring it up otherwise if the climate is literally always changing and has been since long before the dawn of man? Most of the people all in on it being "man made" are the same idiots who don't foresee any possible logistical or grid problems with forcing electric cars on everyone within a matter of a handful of years. Same people literally cannot tell you what a woman is. Ask Lanza...I bet $5k he cannot tell you what a woman is..not in public at least. It's pretty much a religion.

We have MUCH bigger things to worry about than climate change. WGAF if people are going to have to adapt 500 years from now?

Yeah that was crazy, I thought car was in reverse at first and driver was just panic reversing out of there.

Right? The amount of swearing I do in my truck just driving 15 minutes to the grocery store. And this person doesn't utter a peep through all that??

I turned off the microphone on my dash cam because I don't want anything I say to be used against me.

Also how about the life insurance radio ad while the maimed guy comes stumbling down the street?

Seems like crashing the gate of the nearest parking garage might've been a good option.

This last week was a practice run. If you were impacted, think about how you would have done things differently and prepare accordingly.

We'll likely be adding a portable A/C and a few more gas cans to our emergency supplies.

Edit - replaced prior tweet with one that is more factual (?)

Nitpick - I wish people like this would say that the Atlantic is exceptionally hot. Hyperbolic language like it has "never been this hot" just aren't correct.

Not the first time it's been warm Atlantic water in May. Hurricane season starts in 10 days anyways.

Not as worried about the warm water as I am about the steering for this season. Last season was very active, but mostly fish storms. The steering and shear this season is much different and more conducive for US landfall. I'm not one for fear mongering, but it never hurts to be prepared.

It's definitely going to be more active assuming and hoping we don't have high pressure parked on top of the state all summer.

Yeah, I don't need anyone being able to play back the things I say when I get cut off in Houston traffic.

Has anyone heard anything about a protest on Voss Road? Apparently some of the folks in Memorial are upset about how long power restoration is taking and they want to block the linemen/CenterPoint trucks who have been staging in their area but leaving to work in other parts of the city. Can anyone confirm this? Sounds wild.

eh, it sucks being without a/c. I hope they don't actually hinder the linemen. They have a tough and dangerous jobs and should be appreciated not harassed.

I figure those folks either have 45kW standby generators running or are vacationing out of the country while this blows over. None of them are going to be picketing linemen.

People just don't grasp the severity of the situation and large scale at which getting 1 million back up and running.

There were Cat 2 winds blowing through the 3rd largest metro area in the country. So yeah...It's gonna take a while for power to get back to everyone.

And on top of that this came out of nowhere. This wasn't a hurricane that was traversing miles over days that CP could start mobilizing and procuring resources knowing that people would be without power.

Yes it does suck. Not arguing that, but a week without power after this event seems about right.

Maybe they should pony up the money to bury their lines underground.

Should have included drainage and duct bank in the I-10 expansion project.

I was discussing this with some buddies of mine the other day.

They were trying to say that they couldn't believe why we haven't gone back and buried all existing lines in the city.

I laughed my ass off that they thought that was even remotely an option. During construction of new subdivisions or infrastructure like highways then yeah bury the lines.

But to think it wouldn't be an absolute nightmare to start digging and burying all the existing lines in this city is nuts. You think the construction along Sheperd is bad just imagine if we were burying power lines all over this place.

Go to the other thread and learn NOBODY can afford that! 150/ft for overhead 1500/ft underground (ACTUAL NUMBERS)

To be fair, if anybody could afford it it's probably Memorial Villages. That doesn't mean the value proposition makes sense, though. They'll just all buy generators.
