Looks like we'll only get a few hours below freezing in central Houston, compared to about 80-90 hours straight for Dallas. I'll take it.

They've systematically started overstating demand and underestimating supply forecasts it seems. Most of the experts (also skeptics) seem unconcerned about any significant issues this time.
Monday's forecast may or may not be accurate due to the holiday and places of business and schools being closed. Tuesday's will change based on the behavior they see tonight and tomorrow. Even if there is a shortfall, it should be limited to a couple hours of rotating outages and not the catastrophe from '21

Because the news has been hyping it all week. They want it to be a disaster so badly so they can get some attention. Fully expect them to drive around looking for icecicles on stop signs this evening.

I'm curious what percentage of this can be attributed to panic buying and what is trucking issues, assuming from the storm north of here. We went to HEB Friday and they were out of several things then. For example, we needed Italian sausage for a soup we're planning on doing and they were out. Butcher said that truck was a couple days late already.
Don't get me wrong. People are ****ing stupid. So some is absolutely panic buying.

I blame local amd national news for this insanity. While I obviously wasn't the one making the decisions, I dont remember any insane panic like this during all the flooding and freezes I went through growing up.

These winter conservation notices never made since to me….you'd think even if 25% had gas furnaces that'd be substantially less demand than summer.
All of the new construction apartments and cheap homes are using resistance heating, which just sucks electricity the colder it gets. Super inefficient.
Really frustrates me when my gas furnace pulls 500W max but I may have to deal with outages because someone's electric heater is pulling 10x that

I wish I could connect my cycling trainer my house. I turn a lot of energy into waste heat.
