that person in the screenshots had claimed to see my dog a day or two after he was originally lost on the street that he was lost and didn't at that time ask about any sort of reward. I sent a follow up and they started responding like that with the ****ed up dead dog *****

I would not be surprised at this point if someone did report that they had seen him dead given the weather and area. hell, if they'd said the popeyes by that ladies house, I'd still think it's possible that they were telling the truth but being an *******. my dog probably is dead.

No, they were the same circumstances. People were taking advantage of your naivete or vulnerability or both and using it to try and get your money. Both scams worked on different levels, but only one was successful. What I meant by my post is that I understand why you were taken advantage of because even after all this you still can't immediately recognize obvious scams, which makes you an easy mark. I also understand why so many old people get scammed because even young people who know how ****ty people can be and how prevalent scams are still fall for things when they believe something or someone they care about is in peril.
