My go to for classic country has become a Christian station!? WTF!? How does a Christian radio station take over a classic country station? Especially in HOUSTON!! Apparently $3.1 million is all it takes to buy a radio station these days, LOL. It is a sad day, I guess I am back to Pandora and Spotify.

Rant over.

The only person I know who listened to it was my grandfather and he passed away a few years back.

A media company called Urban One bought all of Cox Media's Houston stations including 97.1 (along with 106.9 The Eagle and 93Q). That put them over the FCC limit of how many stations a company can own in a market and it seems the highest bidder for 97.1 was Educational Media Foundation which is the owner of a bunch of Christian radio stations

such a shame. good station to listen to once or twice a month. The fact they were a classic country station, yet repeated the same 50 songs on a playlist over and over again is what did them in. Oh well.

You just reminded me of the day KLOL became a Tejano/fusion/whatever station.

Not nearly as triggering as KQUE going from being the old person classic oldies music to a rap station in a day or two span. Those olds were not happy.

That's all radio stations for the past 20 years. The average person is in a car for 30 minutes or less and in that time they want to hear their favorites rather than deep tracks. Its sucks if you work in a place that plays radio all day and you have to hear the same handful of songs on repeat.

I saw/heard this last night and was bummed! My son turned me on to that station.

I found a press release that says the country programming will still be heard on 92.9. But when I flipped to that station last night, it was commercials, so I haven't confirmed.

That was a pretty solid station and the only country I listen to. All country made this century is garbage.

It was the only station I really listened to...that being said, not sure the last time I listened. Primarily Spodify, Podcats, and Audiobooks now...

Was saddened to hear the news about 97.1

Going to get my IHeart feed connected to my truck so can listen to my new "favorite".

Classic Country 104.3. Station out of Virginia.

I found them to provide the same era/style of music as 97.1 but with a much more extensive song list.

Y'all might want to give them a listen.

Last country station is gone and now we just have 2 southern pop stations when I don't feel like opening Spotify.

I remember when 97.1 went from being a rap station to classic country, back in the day. I imagine there were a lot of confused people that day too.

I think this can be said of nearly every FM station in the U.S. Even stations on Sirius XM get in a rut with this.

Fort Worth has a station that is dedicated to red dirt and Texas Country Artist. 95.9 The Ranch. It is such a shame that the Houston Market has nothing like this at all. They promote artist and shows in the area as well. I hate to say that DFW has a better market for artists and music but it's the truth and I hate all things Metroplex related.

First heard of The Ranch at Musicfest and I sometimes listen through their app.

I wish I had HD radio.

I follow them on twitter and every week they put out their top 12 Texas Country Songs and I then add them to my Spotify playlist.

You might give 104.9 out of La Grange a try. I'd bet it is the same syndicated radio being played on both stations except with the La Grange channel you get polka music on the weekends and local news/sports updates.

There was a solid Texas country station out of Hempstead until not too long ago (Texas Mix 105.3) that you could pick up on the west side of Houston. Then an Asian language station out of Houston crowded out their broadcast signal.

If you don't have HD radio, might be time to look into a new ride. That 04 Corolla has served you well, now let it go.

Just upgraded less than a year ago. Lexus/Toyota are so far behind and I'm going to get a grom unit for Carplay but still won't have HD radio.

Obviously tacos have the latest & greatest tech, inside and out.... (My 2011 taco had BT radio that sounded like you were listening to hold music on your phone but phone calls were fine)

No bueno for my 2011 LX570 and 2012 Tundra didn't either.
