God you Tine-folk suck. When a building no longer becomes useful or too expensive with zero purpose: blow that **** up. Your memories do not serve a functional purpose and a decade after it closed there have been this many useful purposes: 0.

ZERO

For public infrastructure this is useless and the fallout for saving memories has been a D takeover of the county. The result is worse than any positive outcome because none has been found and the result has been worse.

Without Emmit's Quitoxic campaign to save a decrepit rotting zero-purpose building we don't get Lina.

Lina gives a 3-2 advantage for redrawing commissions districts.

That gives Ellis the power to redraw and flip precincts.

That gives a 4-1 advantage for the next tax setting hearing.

**** thr Astrodome and you morons and your memories.

You are the problem.

Why do you think the state legislature got rid of straight ticket voting after Beto??? Beto and liberal women are the reasons Houston is hell right now.

And for the record that should have happened years ago. Nothing screams incompetence than hitting one button and leaving - especially if it's for the democrats.

If we have questions about whether the hockey stadium in Anchorage needs to be torn down and replaced, we'll come to you. In the meantime, leave Tine stuff to the Tine folks and kindly STFU.
The Dome didn't cause Lina or the Dem takeover of Houston, that sits squarely in Beto's narrow, feminine shoulders and white liberal women in the loop.
While Beto and his ****s absolutely had a huge role, the fact that Ed Emmit refused to do what the voters wanted (multiple times at that) with the Dome also played a major role. He stepped on his own dick, gambled that he would waltz into office again and didn't realize he had finally pissed enough voters off.

I grew up going to the Dome like most others here. Great memories. Some horrible ones as well, both Astros and Oilers crushing defeat related. But the fact of the matter is that it's a building, nothing more, nothing less. It's unused and needs to go.

Harris county needs to auction off every bit of it they can, then auction off or create a lotto to buy tickets to be the one that pushes the button that blows it the hell up. Even Yankee Stadium and Comiske Park are no longer - all buildings like this have finite life spans, and the Dome has long exceeded its useful life. It's basically the equivalent of a human vegetable being kept alive only by life support and feeding tubes because mommy can't bear to let their kid just die...so instead it's a life of suffering while just laying there shtting itself and drooling on itself.

There are always multiple factors, but if ranking all of them, that falls WAY below Beto-Mania...which was by far the primary culprit. Look at what happened to our courts, "black girl magic" etc.

Blaming Emmett is silly.

remember it wasn't just Beto-mania, it was that combo'd with anti-Ted mania with straight ticket voting still allowed.

that's what did it. that doesn't absolve Emmett of crapping on the voters. but, i don't think any R stood a chance in that election.

Back on this Dome situation.

I've got a 3 point plan for Lina if she is inclined:

1. Get out of rehab;

2. Immediately move to designate the Astrodome as a site of cultural and historical significance; apply for federal money.

3. Strip the dome down to bare steel and concrete. Reconstruct the dome to original specifications using modern materials and green technology. Get your hands on some of paws build back better trillions and rebuild the gd astrodome.

Put solar panels all over the roof of the dome. Treat wastewater on-site and make people drink their own pee. Have discount seats with exercise bikes with a generator connected to the grid. I don't care. Just get it done Lina.

You want to get back into the good graces of Houstonians then rebuild the astrodome. We'll put a bronze statue of you right next to the giant Indian statue.

Grasp your place in history Lina.

The whole top of the dome covered in solar panels would probably offset the electrical needs of the dome since lights would be needed more than before when sunlight made its way in (sort of).

The old story about the Dome panels originally being clear and them having to paint over them because the outfielders couldn't see the fly balls when the sun shone in is still funny to me.

Prove the viability of green building technology by refurbishing the Houston astrodome.

There is no better proving ground for energy-efficient HVAC than putting it in a building built on a giant swamp. Have the roof be a giant solar panel and demonstrate the energy efficiency of your LEDs. Put a star wars moisture farm in the parking lot. Just get it done.

If you trying to sell us on green new deal then there's no better proving ground than the astrodome.

Show us how it's gonna work. Show us that it will work. And show us how much its gonna cost.

Right next to the chief and adjacent to new Dome 2.0, we put a bronze statue of Lina. Instead of a buffalo skin it can be a trench coat or something of that nature. Maybe even a scarf. Or a shawl or whatever is culturally appropriate.

The Dome stands empty, dark and silent, like a god cast down from its enthronement, only to now huddle in disgust, its eyes fixed over a town full of Cajun/Pho Fusion trucks and endless Boba Tea shops. The evidence of a once tough, oil town as lost to memory as Dome Foam, Hair sprayed Dolls, Destruction Derbies and a daredevil that once tried to ride a barrel from its roof to a small water tank and ****ing died.

Every evening the shadow of that looming rectangle of modern mediocrity creeps up the side of the 8th Wonder as the sun sets, plunging it into a darkness only rivaled by its own heart. It's hate grows with every townhome that's filled by former Californians with their electric vehicles and plastic surgery. Its silent suffering only interrupted by dark blue and red clad "fans" on their way to cheer on a team that ran down the crack of McNair's ass 20 years ago or former Bostonians in Luccheses and straight leg bedazzled Levis passing by to eat a tofu-dog on a stick and play cowboy for a day. A travesty so complete that only the thought of Bud Adams burning in Hell watching endless replays of the second half of '93 Bills/Oilers can bring the mood back around a bit.

The Dome is still there, majestic as ever, biding its time. Some of us who sat in those orange and red seats still remember. We carry the memory of it with us in our hearts, the smell of it in our Pasadena-blackened lungs, forever.

Honestly, I'm glad its locked up. Its safer. If any of our newly-minted Houston-transplants stepped foot on that hallowed ground, they'd ****ing shrivel up and die from unworthiness. They haven't sacrificed enough yet like we have. Besides, I imagine Dave Ward sneaks in to drink and talk to old friends. And that mother ****er will kill you.

As a Houston transplant, I've never understood the fascination with keeping The Dome on life support.

At thos point, it is so derelict, it's useless and only taking up space. Tear it down. IIRC, it costs the city around $30MM a year just to keep it in stasis.
