Maybe she was young enough through the first little while to believe that being a Weekend at Bernie's-esque administrator over the third largest county in America in direct opposition to the party that controls the state in the most politically polarized era in a generation was a good idea. But, despite continued affirmations from her shrinking pool of as-yet-unindicted handlers, that nagging perception in the back of her mind that she was exactly what her critics have always said had to start hitting home unless, perhaps, she spackled over her frontal lobes with the hard stuff.
The folks pulling the strings used her age, gender, and ethnicity as a shield behind which they could write consulting contracts. That's got to sting when it hits home.
