Since we have a thread about restaurants in Galveston that suck, here's one for places that don't.

I'll start:

Millers Seafood
Shrimp and Stuff
Nick's

We're Shrimp n Stuff or GTFO folks when it comes to island fare - have never had a bad experience … crowd pleaser and cold ass Tiki Wheat on tap

The bacon cheeseburger at Way West Grill in Jamaica beach is great too, although that usually smacks after a sun drenched day on the beach or fishing + 12 Tikis like it did last weekend.

Shrimp N Stuff is great. Always a go-to.

Gumbo Bar is great. Small place but good food.

Rudy & Paco's for a fancy night out. And I know some on here don't like Gaido's, but I think it's still worth a visit.

We always liked Waterman's on the west end for the views and the ambiance. Haven't been in a while so can't vouch for the food. Nate's on the west end is decent, too.

I've heard Original Mexican Cafe has gone downhill in recent years. Anyone confirm?

We went there 6 months ago and it was just blah mexican food. Nothing special at all. We usually eat seafood in Galveston and had never been to The Original, so we were surprised based on the hype that the place was supposedly amazing. NOT amazing at all.

There is a hole in the wall called El Nopolitos that is decent mexican food. Breakfast or lunch. It used to be amazing mexican food 30 years ago when I went to TAMUG, but after getting wiped out by Ike, it's changed to just decent. Better than what we had at The Original though. And better than Salsa's too.

We also had a good meal at Coopers down west past the seawall, but it was overpriced for what it was. but a 'nicer' night out down on that end for cocktails and nicer fare other than the usual flip flop joints in Jamaica or Sea Isle

I think that's about the friendliest place I've been to over there. No island time attitude.

That's why you get the shrimp and not "the stuff."

El Tiempo Cafe is opening in the building on the Strand that once housed the Wendletrap. Spring of 2024.

Most of the best already named, but here's a couple more: Shearn's at Moody Gardens has great views and a solid menu. The Steakhouse at the San Luis is good, too.
Stat Monitor Repairman

Yamotos
Sunflower Bakery
The Press Box
Leon's Worlds Finest
La Estacion' (breakfast burritos)
Gordita's
Saltwater Grill

And if you got one shot to get it right then The Steakhouse at the san luis is a lockdown best bet,

Went to Sugar and Rye back in April. They were fairly new and still working out some menu issues. But the atmosphere was great, food was delicious, and the staff was amazing. We will go back.

Been going to Sonny's since I was a little kid. Behave or be gone. Also, Friday gumbo is pretty damn good as well.

Great to hear.

I had some great meals there a few years ago, and the atmosphere was always fantastic.

Just a little FYI regarding muffaletta sandwich.

Galveston Island Brewery serves Maceo's muffaletta sandwich. At least they did last time I was there in 2020). It was awesome enjoying plenty of brews fresh off the tap and scarfing down that sandwich, after a round of golf at Moody Gardens G.C.

Gumbo Bar is good - don't overlook it for a good breakfast
Bronco Burrito - Everyone has their favorite breakfast burrito place, but Bronco has good breakfast burritos and run by really good people.
Black Pearl Oyster is one of my favorites
Sunflower Bakery has great pies
Maceos has some great seasoning we buy for various things - The owner died recently and his daughter is running things, we'll see if anything changes.

Maceo's Sunday Gravy and "Blackened Seasoning" are great.

Btw, I fixed your statement.

Black Pearl Oyster fo sho.

If you want sweets, the confectionary shop on the Strand is damn good. They have a well above average milkshake or malt.

I don't think anything bad has been mentioned here. I haven't tried some of the places, but that's because I don't hit the island up super frequently and tend to garvitate to the usuals when I go.

So headed for a long weekend down on the island. Any of these places kid friendly?

We typically just hit up Fisherman's Wharf and grab a seat on the patio but would like to try something different this time around.
