This. The last time I went there, the food was horrible. Even the burgers tasted like frozen, dry, microwaveable burgers.
This would imply you've had frozen, dry, microwaveable burgers before........?

Goes to the island for the island vibe. Complains about the service having the island vibe.

Nah, it isn't the typical laid back island time thing. What pisses me off is they come around for service, then they don't. They will come refill your tea, then you never see them again. I don't mind self service, but you can't come around and set the expectation, and then disappear. Service or self service, not self service with half ass service.

Evidently they are opening up a new location in League City in the old Tight Ends spot. I bet they get the service right at this location, but I will wait a while before I try it. Too many good burger spots around here to mess with that.

You're drinking tea at The Spot. I've identified the problem.

There was a beer joint they use to have out at the end of brodway seawall. Right before you got to Stewart beach. The name of it was big daddy gators or something like that. Was on stilts out on the beach.

Anyway, there was no parking lot of any kind. You were out directly on the sand. You have people trying to come out of the place people getting stuck. Trucks rutting up the sand so cars couldn't get out. Tow-trucks and cops. The place was chaos.Anybody know what Im talking about?

The place was nice though. They spent a lot of money on it at that time.

Yea the Russians, Colombian, Irish etc. the Feds call them mob also.

They also claim the surviving Maceo's are no longer a crime family. A few generations removed. But Tillman got his money from somewhere.

You haven't been to the El Paso location I see.

Nothing like having a Hooters waitress that is 8.5 months pregnant, and likely not exactly classic Hooters material prior to being so.

I don't care if the baby is coming out as long as my food comes out in less than 90 minutes. I've been the Galveston hooters twice with less than 20 people in restaurant each time..... took 90 minutes for our food both trips. Never again

The Spot is terrible. The food was ok (same quality as Landry's chain food) but the service is non-existent. You go to a counter, order your food, get asked for a tip in advance, get your own drink, fight for a table, pick up your own food, and hope you didn't lose your table to someone else while getting your food. The staff, other than the cooks, do nothing.

If the island vibe is you do everything yourself like at fast food restaurant but still get to tip, then this is your place.

Yet people rave about the place and are positively wetting themselves over a second location in League City.

It looks like you don't eat out much because pretty much every counter service place asks for a tip when you pay.

Tipping has gotten out of control.

They got liberal with it during covid and have now gone buck wild with it.

And I put 0 percent with a smile on my face. If I order my food or drink from a counter and not from my table then it's not a situation where tipping service is warranted

Well, your first time there, it appears to be a normal place where you order at a counter and they bring you your food. You wait in line for a hostess and then she sends you to a counter where you wait again. And handily for them, you don't find out you bus your own food until after you are past the "tip" part of the process, or else i would have gladly entered "0". Then you fight for a table.

Also, there was plenty of staff standing around socializing who couldn't even be bothered to help me open the door as i struggled out onto the balcony carrying the food because my wife had to stay at the table lest we lose it to someone else. But they got their "tip".

Thus I have no problem saying they have a strange business model and their service sucks, in my opinion. But apparently I'm in the minority on that opinion.

Their service does suck. It's a counter service place on an island.

Head next door to the bar, full food service and full waitstaff, no counter, no line.

Look, it's a burger / wing place servicing fried-whatever frozen Sysco fare. It ain't gourmet sheet Jimmy. You go there to chill out, kill a few drinks and soak in the scene. It's a crappy-plus burger place on the beach with booze, music and decent people watching. It knows its place.

Problem is that it isn't full service. They come around when you first get there, well, about ten minutes after you sit down, bring you drinks like it is full service, then they disappear. If you want a second beer, you either wait until they show back up, or you go up to the bar and open a tab there too. So you sit there in limbo, hoping your stoner waiter finishes his heater and shows back up until you are thirsty and pissed off and open a tab at the bar. Happened too many times for me when I lived down there. I'm out on that place.

Tell me you're a sh*tty tipper without telling me you're a sh*tty tipper.

If I was a local I probably wouldn't go there much either. I'm sure there are more chill places to grab a beer on the water I just don't know where they are.
