Took an Aggie friend who had a portly spouse. An old bar bum , surly dead now, yelled out to her" you remind me of my bowling ball, roll over here and talk to me." Oddly he just cracked up.
A TNDC around 2010 or so was probably the last time I went there. Loved the place for years, but our happy hour tabs got padded one too many times to think it was coincidence, then I read a thread on Murray Newman's blog where he and several others were talking about the same thing happening to them. It was a couple of old blonde broads bartending, who would be drinking w/ their friends while on shift, and I guess adding their tabs to whoever they thought the suckers were.digging tunnels said:
I went to Kenneally's last month on a Tuesday for a nostalgic annual TNDC for a friend's bday. It was dead as hell. Maybe another 10 people besides our group of 10ish. But the Shamrock Pizza was still damn good and the Guinness still tasted great.
And got to see Mario from Kay's Lounge still working there as well
Yeah, not really a dive like some others. Def good people watching and Wednesday burger special can't be beat. The Wonderer said:Is TBones really much of a dive after they renovated a few years ago?drumboy said:I need to go to the Loh again soon.Brittmoore Car Club said:This is how the Shiloh Club used to be back when I lived down the street about a decade ago. Stopped by in early December to to kill an hour about 500 on a Thursday.
It was depressing as hell. Clientele looked like they had been sitting there and not gotten up since I was last there a decade ago.
TBones is my dive of choice lately.

I would love it to be revived. I'm so out of touch with all the new bars that have popped up. But that's Catch's thing, and he unfortunately doesn't come up to town that much, if at all, anymoreswimmerbabe11 said:
Tuesday Night Drinking Club needs to revived now that it doesn't mean I have to show up to work hungover on Wednesdays
Is there no younger generation beer whisperer on this board that can take up the reins?digging tunnels said:I would love it to be revived. I remember being one of the young ones on this board. Its definitely not a good sign where we're in our late 30s and we're still the young ones on this board.Texaggie7nine said:Is there no younger generation beer whisperer on this board that can take up the reins?digging tunnels said:I would love it to be revived. Is it mostly just us old late 30 and 40 somethings that have stayed here all along and all the younger generations have cooler social media they stick to?
You aren't suggesting that there is someone that could replace Catch are you?Quote:

It's going to require a modest amount of younger, unmarried professionals to really drive it and keep it going though. Most of us older farts probably expend whatever available time they have to regularly get drunk at a bar with their HLSR committees, if at all.swimmerbabe11 said:
I mean but really how much work is it?
Make a TNDC thread, decide on a spot to get buckets of beer each week and show up?
I can't promise to show up literally every tuesday but I can certainly make a thread.
Of course no one can fill his shoes. He's apparently been taking his show on an international tour more as of late.Ezra Brooks said:You aren't suggesting that there is someone that could replace Catch are you?Quote:

Just in case that is what you were suggesting - GtKYN - Catch
Hell yeah. Had some great times at both those places.BMX Bandit said:
lots of great memories at kenneallys and griffs. practically everyone in houston was in one of those two places on st. patrick day in late 90s.
theres a reason they are called memories. the luster and charm of both has long since worn off.

I went to HS with one of the owners/manager there. Solid guy and he knows his drinks.Ferris Wheel Allstar said:
EZs is a solid bar that brings back some nostalgia bar feels, pool table, cig machine and a Texas table.
R.I.Pieces Sundown Saloon. That was probably the only dive where I felt safe eating the free food. A lot of times they'v even have big grocery store sandwich trays, so you didn't have to think about which bartender's hands might've touched the food. Bob was a good owner.drumboy said:
If it's got a crock pot free hot dog setup and community microwave then it's probably a dive.

Funny, I didn't go out much on weeknights in my 20s, unless you count going to happy hour when the boss wanted to talk/wait out the rain. But now as I've come to appreciate weeknights a little more for avoiding crowds or waits.
Isn't the current bar there, The Spot, basically the same?Microwave Onions said:R.I.Pieces Sundown Saloon. That was probably the only dive where I felt safe eating the free food.
