our water supply is supposed to be independent of CoH
How so? All of the enclaves are Houston water customers.

That's hilarious. But doubly hilarious how much the left freaked out over him going to Cancun during a heavy cold front. None of y'all say sh** about a dem US congressman literally being sex partners with a f-ing Chinese spy, but Ted Cruz going to Mexico was the mother of all scandals. Good little useful idiots media obeying lemmings.

Any word on why it took nine whole hours to realize something was amiss?

The TCEQ rules are clear concerning BWNs. They also have a template that is used when issuing the BWN. The "leadership" in HOU / Harris county failed to react in a timely manner. CYA activities all around. That is the crime here. If those blaming Cruz and Abbott truly believe those 2 are responsible, then HOU, we truly have a problem.

They didn't check Nextdoor or Facebook with everyone saying why is my water pressure so low?

As soon as I saw that yesterday morning I was wondering when the boil notice would come.

School's closed (dumb) but wife's private school that normally follows HISD is open. Which is the right call but it's annoying.

Besides how long it took to tell, why is there no emergency notice for this? Of all the things that get sent to my phone, this one seems a bit more pertinent.

Because it's not really an emergency. The water is fine, now it's just government Over regulation kicking in

At least traffic coming into downtown this morning was light.

For the most part all of Harris County is on surface water and how the pipes flow is interesting. WHCRWA shut off from the city and isnusing alt sources to keep MUDS without wells operating. If your MUD has a well it's most likely drawing water and is safe to drink.

Nothing like waking up at 5 am and driving an hour to work to be met with:

"Sorry, sir. Office is closed due to the COH's boil water notice."

Buildings all over the world have figured out how to use a generator for backup power. How in the world has the city not solved that yet?

It's really ridiculous for offices to be closed.

Schools are closed because they use city water for lunches and drinking fountains, and they can't switch that out.

But offices could just be like, hey y'all don't drink the water out of the bathroom sink.... idiots.

Or maybe they realize a lot of parents also now have to deal with school closures? I'd also say it's a little more complex then don't drink out of the sink. At my office, the ice machine, coffee maker, and filtered water would all be effected. Reason to close? Probably not. Just provide some bottled water. But, again, you also have a good chunk of your employees trying to figure out what to do with their kids.

Harris County wouldn't give me a permit for a small water treatment plant until I added a generator.

Filtered water won't be affected but agree, ice, coffee, etc would all be affected.

Also, businesses shouldn't close based on what schools do, they've gotta push through. Local business world grinding to a stop because a in-service day sounds like the worst business idea EVER.

You need to stay home because you're kid isn't going to school, 100% understandable as an adult needs to be home with young(ish) kids; but either expect to take a PTO day or WFH.
