Any suggestions as to best Chinese food in H-town? Mein? Ginger and Fork? Mala? I appreciate your help.

I'm going to need you to be a little more specific. Are you wanting authentic? Are you wanting Peking duck? Hong Kong Style? American fast food style? Dim Sum? Seafood? Hot Pot? China is a big and diverse country.

Authentic, please. A place that has a good representation of the different cuisines. It will be for a group. Thanks

You don't want authentic Chinese. It's disgusting. Do you like chicken feet?

If you're open to Vietnamese, I like in East Downtown....

Huynh Restaurant
912 St Emanuel St, Houston, TX

Personally, I would prefer Vietnamese. Unfortunately the request was for Chinese.

I would probably suggest Crown Seafood or Bamboo House

Ginger & Fork & Mala would be my two picks.

G&F had to get a computer system to translate englise to the Cantonese/Mandarin characters bc their cooks are from China

Mein is mainly Cantonese I believe but is very good. I suggest getting it family style.

For dirty, might be rats hanging in the back, but good food in China town - Lai Lai dumpling house.

For run of the mill Chinese food (kung poa, Sesame, Etc) you'd need to specify part of town because there is decent places everywhere.

Lai Lai is no more

Sucks because it was great.

Confucius on Bellaire/Gessner is good for classic cramped family style place with big aquariums of soon-to-be-dinner fish/crustaceans. Lobsters & crab friend rice are legit and everything I've had was good.

Mala is good. Haven't been to Mein.

Was excited to try this place as it's been hyped up here several times and was unimpressed. Open to give it another try.

I like Mein. I also like Arco Seafood but it's been several years since I have eaten there mainly because we don't get to that area very often.

One of my Asian co-workers told me that Asian people don't even eat China Garden. No matter how many times you go there, you'll never see an Asian eating there. He was right. The last few times I've gone there I haven't seen any eating there which is hilarious. He said its just most of them think its disgusting. It still hasn't stopped me from eating there though. But like others have said already, Mein is the best in town. Absolutely amazing food.

Try these if you didn't before. I assume you had an egg roll because that's what they are famous for.

Special Fried Wontons
BBQ Sliced Pork
Lemon Chicken
Mongolian Beef
Special Fried Rice

Doesn't look like it, which is news to me. Old office used to be close by, and it was a pretty regular Friday lunch spot.

I've had most of these and it's just been meh experiences over the years although it has good reviews and I know quite a few successful business people over the decades that think it's great.

It's next door to the basketball arena parking garage. It's dirty with dust in the corners on the floor and the service staff can be sketchy and rude at times. Outside parking at night can also be dealing with panhandlers and no parking security.

Not saying I won't eat there but wouldn't recommend as a go to place for the OP.

Sadly no. Closed a month or two ago. Was holding on before COVID and never had any bounce back. Was my go to.
