And backed up from Yale well past Ashland at about 5:45. I couldn't get onto 11th (heading east) from Ashland. So I went south and turned left/east on 10th to head home. But then got stuck behind a large girl on a bike riding about 5mph in the middle of the damn street. It was glorious. My 7 minute commute took about 20.
This is a wonderful story. Just so perfect for the cluster the city has created.

At 5:45 yesterday I turned West on 11th off Rutland and traffic was backed up all the way to Shepherd. Took a couple minutes to get to Tulane to cut back to Yale.

Not shocked by any of this.

Someone needs to tell her she's supposed to ride on W. 11th now.

Anyone seen old boy in the tutu riding along the new bike lanes yet? Haven't seen him the last few weeks in the morning while on Nicholson.

Neighborhoods can burn piles of tires in the street to detract it.

We can just burn our recycling, since COH only picks it up once every month or two.

This whole project is beyond stupid. Not even going to bring up the impact to traffic. They are about to get some bicyclists killed.

I commute 1-2 times a week downtown by bike, besides being a slower and more segmented route subject to more lights, I wouldn't be caught dead on 11th on a bicycle for fear of people like myself driving on 11th.
Not to mention the several other paths to travel east-west in this area with little to no vehicle encounters.

-White oak bayou ALL THE WAY to downtown with zero vehicle interference(choose your starting point all the way to 43rd)
-More direct route to the above is to catch heights blvd with protected bike lane to Spotts park
-MKT Trail with little vehicle interaction besides crossing at Yale/Heights

I just cant comprehend the thought process of adding a bike lane to 11th with so many existing routes in place already.

This was one of my questions to the city that never got answered - is there an issue with bikers not having enough paths to bike to destinations in the Heights?

They would throw it back to its a traffic calming initiative.

It was always about some BS perception that gives certain people hard ons without actually providing benefit.

From Timbergrove I do 13th to Heights to MKT to White Oak to Houston to Trail on Buffalo Bayou to UHD. How is Heights S or 10 to Spotts? I'm on a fast e bike so I like to stay off skinny mixed use trails.

This was a road diet intended to reduce traffic and promote bikes but it's screwed up since it's hurting a commuting route. It's united drivers and cyclists apparently.

All I want to do is go north on Rutland across 11th but now it's so backed up I have zero visibility on what's coming WB from Yale. Such bull****.

Drumboy, Heights south from MKT has the protected lane, from there I cross east at E 2nd street to Harvard and then cut behind the HEB and that dumps you right into Spotts. Same from White oak bayou trail

Hah. Amusing idea. Preschool pick up is the only reason I'm over there. I'd sooner change pre-schools.

I'm completely joking. There's a lady who picks up and drops off her kids at our school on a two seater bike and she almost wrecks in front of the school every time she drives it. Wild.

Drove down 11th a few days ago. Saw a couple bikes riding…..on the sidewalk. Lol.

Imagine that, where they belong.
Imagine that, you still don't know **** about cycling.

Well, I know this. Contrary to what the Texas legislature has told all of us, a bicycle is not a motor vehicle, and should not be given the same privileges on the road as do REAL motor vehicles.

I was walking home from the gym tonight and noticed someone on Ashland drove through the intersection where there is now a new median. Looks like they had no idea it was there and just plowed over it. There are some nice gouges in the concrete from them driving over it, and presumably effing up their undercarriage.

Also, a bunch of the rebar for the new median at Nicholson is all flat from people driving over it. COH needs to do some overkill with orange barrels right now. The westbound side is a tad narrow between the new median and bike lane barrier. It's going to be another one people hit drive over regularly. My guess is it ends up looking like the one on Studewood between 11th and White Oak with about 20 bollards around it.

Not shocking. No reason to expect a median there and there is no reflective paint or or reflective strips on them. Wonder if that's planned.

Then there's that ****ing **** they're building at Heights and 11th that I still don't know WTF it is for besides ****ing up the intersection with people going straight or turning west onto 11th.

Haha yeah. Just noticed those this morning when I went to Kolache Shoppe. WTH are those? Fancy metro bus stops right AFTER and intersection?

This damn thing keeps falling off my watch list. What's up with that? I've got a right to ***** about this project too.

I watched someone drive into the rebar last night and blow their tire in the process at Nicholson.

I also noticed there's another problem - properties with 11th frontage have to block the bike lanes with their trash cans on trash day because the sideloaders can't get close enough to them.

I noticed that on Thursday. Why the **** would they stop direct traffics from crossing at Nicholson?! What the actual ****! Of all the side streets to cut off directly crossing 11th, that should've been the last on the list!

My wife got a ticket this morning for turning left onto 11th from Heights Blvd. No warnings because " people need to learn the new trules so that traffic will flow smoothly."

The thumbs up is because the lady that was pulled over before her was in the parking lot berating the police for about 10 minutes about the absurdity of the bike lane and new "no turn" rules.

Are there signs posted saying you can't turn now? I haven't been paying attention and really been avoiding it like the plague and just taking Yale

There were as of a week and a half ago (I've actively avoided this intersection). I did notice the "no right turn" signs on 11th at Heights went away.

Last night I saw the way people will deal with the median at Nicholson - the pedestrian crossing is wide enough for cars to drive through, so cars will simply use the crosswalk to get across the intersection or turn left.

Also, stop bars went down at Lawrence, which is good indicator of a traffic signal. Of all the intersections that could benefit from a traffic signal, Lawrence is not it.

Wait, you can't turn from Heights west onto 11th now? I haven't driven or ridden by that area in a few months.

Just drove through and still handing out tickets.

Saw the painted stop bars on Lawrence and THOROUGHLY confused by that.

Just one gigantic cluster by the City of Houston.

Apparently some people aren't liking the fresh concrete as I've seen a couple of the fresh pours have been tire swiped already

To be fair, 80% of Houston drivers suck and would likely hit something anyway..

True. The problem is they're doing both sides at once and they've got those barrel barricades sticking so far out into the lane on both sides that vehicles have inches between them when scooting to the middle. Wouldn't doubt if a few side swipes happened today.

Just following this thread, literally every update about the construction is worse than the last one. Its like every step is meant to inflict maximum pain.
