11th and Heights Eastbound has a no right turns sign, I guess to protect the bike lane. Wtf
And there will no longer be left turns permitted at the intersection of Heights and 11th. This is going to increase traffic on the neighborhood streets, which definitely does not improve safety.

However, with the changes, residents will no longer be allowed to make left turns onto 11th Street from Heights Boulevard and vice versa.

So you gotta go up to 12th and hook around?

Next they'll be spending exorbitant amounts of money to add speed bumps all along 7th to 14th from Heights to Shepherd.

10th and 12th already have speed humps because cut-through traffic was a problem with twice as many lanes on 11th.

Hell, they're on 14th just passed Herkimer too as I recall

I saved myself easily 5-10 minutes this evening by cutting down Tulane to 13th to get to Yale.

Welp. Guess it's time to implement "Operation: Cheeel for the Children" by putting these up all along the side streets. That'll keep people on a backed up thoroughfare.

12/14 Update: 11th Eastbound through Yale/Heights at 7:25 wasn't too bad, thankfully the bike lanes are wide enough for folks to use as (illegal) right turn lanes on Heights.

14th Westbound crossing Durham at 8:00 sucked as it seems lots of folks are taking 14 to go South on Durham to 10 and there's only one lane for folks turning left blocking folks going straight.

I don't think Grove, Fields, or Sly give a sheet what residents in the neighborhood think. They deflected every criticism thrown their way during the planning phase. Sly even faked a "30 Day Halt" to act like he considered not doing it but it's pretty clear it was always going to happen.

I think if there's someone that could feel pain over this it's Abbie Kamin. I'd love to help fund a billboard on 11th letting folks know she supported this idiotic idea.

I don't think even she can feel pain as she's ingrained into the City's political machine.

We just have to bend over and take it.

I had a direct conversation with her about it after her office staff wouldn't even entertain my comments on it. She seemed very annoyed when I brought up my objections. She basically rolled her eyes and told me I was wrong.

I'm not sure she'll get a viable opponent, but anyone asking for my support better be ready to support reversal of this project. Whitmire is opposed to it and he's in the best competitive position for mayor.

Even if Whitmire opposes it, I have to think it's way down his priority list if he wins.

I'm highly doubtful this ever gets reversed....unless someone's buddy promises the appropriate kickback to the appropriate politician.

I was thinking we need some traffic vigilantes to fix this; I've thought about installing some speed bumps on my street in the middle of the night.

The reason COH stopped installing speed humps, except at the request of Council members was studies showed drivers would speed up between speed humps and actually drive faster than they would if the speed humps were not present.

One other thing that will make this project a waste is that street sweepers cannot drive over the protective curbs, so the bike lanes will collect debris and become unusable. This is a common complaint from cyclists about protected bike lanes.

correct - I ride a lot and I try my best to avoid those isolated bike lanes. I've gotten flats in them and so have others. Not only flats, but running over the debris can make riding unstable.

However, the city now has a new machine to clean out those lanes. I'm not sure if it's ever been used, but supposedly the city has a way to clean them now.

Yup. 90+% of bike lanes in Houston are worthless.

Our part of the grove was supposed to get them before Harvey but that delayed the plan. Now Dian St Villas are supposed to be paying for them and I've seen the city plans but still no humps

The only bike I've seen on 11th in the past two weeks has been one guy, riding in the street in the oncoming traffic lane.

It's a stupid idea, a waste of money, and going to be an inconvenience. Ultimately, the real concern is that uptick in traffic on the crossroads and 10th/12th where there is far more foot traffic/ residential area. I saw a car booking it down 10th at 40mph and just blow through a stop sign a couple days ago. (I'm sure they had no idea it was there)

Just wait until some kid gets hit by a car at Milroy Park that was cutting through at 12th and Yale. That'll start the **** show.
